In the spotlight at #9️⃣ in COVE's #YearInReview is: Championing Ocean Digitization and Technical Leadership 🌊🌟 COVE’s #DigitalHarbour initiative is redefining ocean intelligence through cutting-edge technology, #ArtificialIntelligence (AI), and strategic partnerships. By digitizing Halifax Harbour, this ambitious project integrates real-time data from sensors spanning land, sea, air, and space into a unified platform. This transformative effort offers unprecedented insights into marine environments, empowering stakeholders to address complex challenges with precision and foresight. Central to Digital Harbour’s #innovation is its application of AI, which analyzes vast and complex datasets to uncover patterns and correlations traditional methods might overlook. For example, the platform’s ability to monitor E. Coli levels in real-time, combined with live AIS (Automatic Identification System) data, provides actionable insights into potential correlations between vessel activity, weather events, and water quality. Such capabilities not only enhance understanding but also inform preventative measures, fostering safer and more sustainable marine environments. At the heart of Digital Harbour’s success are its strategic partnerships, which bring together expertise from industry, government, and academia. Collaborations with organizations like CarteNav and input from COVE’s Digital Harbour Advisory Committee highlight the power of shared knowledge in advancing ocean data management. These partnerships are essential for developing and implementing innovative solutions that ensure consistency and reliability in data collection and application. Accelerating industry collaboration and innovation with Digital Harbour was the theme at COVE’s November Ocean Connector event. This insightful gathering showcased the project’s potential and emphasized the critical role of industry collaboration in its success. Expert speakers, including Patrick LeClair (COVE), Shayla Fitzsimmons (CIOOS Atlantic), and Chris Whidden (DeepSense/COVE Digital Research Chair), shared perspectives on how the initiative can revolutionize #MarineTechnology. As Digital Harbour progresses, industry involvement is essential. COVE is inviting contributions in several key areas: 🌊 Integration: Collaborate to connect your data or models with the platform. 🌊 Infrastructure: Partner with COVE on data infrastructure projects to bring your initiatives to life. 🌊 Feedback: Join as an early access user in 2025 to help refine the platform.
