Maritime Launch Services should be getting more attention in Canadian Defence circles. This latest investment from the Government of Canada can be seen through a National Defence lens. Satellites are a key enabler of modern military capabilities and will only grow in importance as autonomous systems become more ubiquitous on the battlefield, in the air and at sea. Having the sovereign ability to launch satellites in support of our military and those of our allies is a critical step in ensuring Canada is positioned for the evolving security environment. 🚀 Big milestone alert! 🚀 Yesterday, Maritime Launch Services announced that the company received a term sheet for a $12.9 million contribution from the Government of Canada under the Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF). The global demand for satellite services, such as communications, earth observation, and navigation, is rapidly increasing. Canada is ready to support this demand with the most competitive location in North America - right here, in rural Nova Scotia. Developing a commercial spaceport in Canada stimulates economic growth and job creation in high-tech industries. It will foster innovation and position Canada as a key player in the global space economy, attracting investments and partnerships from around the world. It's a no-brainer. Great to see the Government of Canada join with the Government of Nova Scotia to provide meaningful support for commercial launch from Nova Scotia. This shifting landscape impacts the development and adoption of Sustainable Alternative Fuels (SAFs), which are key to achieving long-term sustainability goals in the #maritime #sector. The SAFeCRAFT project aims to address these regulatory challenges by pioneering innovations in SAF technology and implementation. 🌿⚓ 🚢 The FuelEU Maritime initiative has set ambitious carbon emissions reduction targets: 2022 targets: Up to 75% by 2050 2024 update: Up to 80% by 2050 🌍 The International Maritime Organization (IMO) mandates significant reductions in carbon intensity and total emissions: Average carbon intensity: 40% by 2030, 70% by 2050 Total emissions: 50% by 2050 (compared to 2008 levels) 💡 SAFeCRAFT: Leading the Charge 📌 Task 2.3 of the SAFeCRAFT project, led by the University of Strathclyde, aims to define #environmental expectations and #regulations for SAFs. By focusing on innovative containment systems, efficient carrier vessels, and robust market strategies, SAFeCRAFT strives to meet the emission reduction targets set by FuelEU Maritime and IMO.
