Advancing marine infrastructure and sustainability holds the number #7️⃣ spot in COVE's #YearInReview! 🌊🚢 COVE’s #MarineTerminal is a hub of innovation and sustainability in the global marine sector. Located along #HalifaxHarbour, it supports marine technologies and vessel operations, fostering collaboration across industries. Spanning 51,000 m², the terminal features two finger piers, a small boat facility, and accommodates commercial, research, and military vessels year-round. With water depths of 15 meters, crane capabilities up to 200 tons, and wharf-side electrical stations with 600 VDC power, it meets the needs of advanced marine operations. Additional amenities like floating docks, high-speed internet, and potable water ensure efficient operations for marine innovators. This year, the terminal demonstrated its global significance during the SailGP races, which marked the sport’s Canadian debut. Ahead of the event, COVE hosted an Ocean Connector session featuring Billy Gooderham, Flight Controller for the Canadian SailGP Team (NorthStar SailGP Team). He offered a behind-the-scenes look at the groundbreaking technology propelling the F50 catamarans—vessels capable of flying above the water at nearly 100 km/h. COVE also engaged with the Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team, to highlight shared goals in climate action, such as reducing emissions in maritime transportation and scaling innovative solutions to accelerate sustainable practices. The terminal was also instrumental during COVE Demo Day, providing essential docking space for a wide range of vessels and facilitated deployment and operations of various technologies. Beyond Demo Day, the terminal hosted a variety of vessels throughout the year, such as research vessels, military ships, electric vessels, and workboats. Many COVE resident companies also rely on the marine terminal regularly to test, maintain, and accelerate their technologies. In November, COVE’s terminal hosted a large-scale security exercise with the Port of Halifax, simulating emergency response scenarios. This exercise, involving multiple organizations, underscored the terminal's role in supporting marine safety and emergency preparedness, ensuring the region remains resilient in the face of potential maritime threats. COVE’s terminal is a vital centre for marine #innovation and collaboration supporting diverse sectors of the #MarineEconomy while advancing sustainable solutions and driving global marine innovation.
