Last week, the Ocean Startup Project | Projet Startup Des Océans held our first-ever Ocean Startup Activator, which was hosted in collaboration with UPEI's Catherine Callbeck Centre for Entrepreneurship and Prince Edward Island BioAlliance. The event brought together students and community members to explore problems in ocean industries, develop ideas for solutions and present those ideas for a chance to win prizes — all in the span of a single day. I feel a renewed sense of excitement and inspiration after watching teams and individuals, many of whom had no awareness of opportunities in oceans prior to the event, come up with innovative ideas in such a short timeframe. The event couldn't have been a success without our partners and the mentors who joined to support participants throughout the day. And a special shout out to my colleague, Sahil Ahuja, who took a rough event concept idea I dreamed up two years ago and brought the vision to life in what was an incredibly well-executed event. I'm looking forward to the innovators we will meet and ideas that will emerge at the next Ocean Startup Activator (more to come on that in the coming months).
