There’s a community (nearly)everywhere. And where there’s a community, there’s opportunity. But there's a big difference between having an audience and having a community. An audience listens; a community connects. A community is about people coming together for a cause, something bigger than themselves that binds them. It’s not for everyone. Because if you try to talk to everyone, you end up talking to no one. True communities have rituals, unspoken traditions that make people feel, “I belong here.” The more I run EVOLVE Commerce Club, the more fascinated I become with the power of communities. Today in Odense, there’s an event filling the streets with children, grandparents, parents, trolls, and fairytale characters. After all, Odense is the home of H.C. Andersen. This festival, since 2002, has been dedicated to children aged 8-12, with activities centered around fairy tales and magic. What I find fascinating is how communities shape experiences. Nearly every successful venture you can think of has a community behind it. This festival for example doesn’t just bring fairy tales to life—it boosts local businesses and creates lasting memories for everyone involved. More and more, I believe community will be at the core of sales, marketing, and partnerships in the B2B space and in our case international expansion and partnerships. Why hold onto solutions when we can share them? In the community that we’re building, we believe in buying back time. Time spent endlessly researching, experimenting, and trying to figure things out on our own. It's about recognizing that someone else may have already conquered the same mountain you're trying to climb. Imagine the relief of having someone say, "Here's what worked for me. Here's the roadmap I followed. Give it a try." Again, it’s about fostering a culture of support, collaboration, and empowerment. Because when one of us succeeds, we all rise together. A key focus of Flemington Works is to understand and disrupt the conditions that hold social and economic inequality in place. One such condition is power. To inform our work, we have used this beautiful Far West Community Partnerships model. In practice, when designing and delivering our recent workshop series, this meant doing pre work with service providers and funding and policy partners, demonstrating humility, delivering sessions with Community Advisors in advance of workshops to ensure they felt comfortable and confident with the proposed content and process, establishing an agreed way of working together, curating spaces and seating, using a paid participation model, and ensuring table facilitators had a connection to Community. What efforts have you used to help shift power when working collaboratively?

As autumn leaves start to fall, we at Match My Project are reflecting on what we like to call our “BRAT Summer” - but not in the way you might think! We’ve given the viral ‘brat’ trend a social value twist. In our world, BRAT stands for Bringing Resources And Transformation. While others embraced their inner brat, some local heroes were busy being community BRATs - using our platform to catalyse positive change! Here are just a few highlights from our summer of community action: 🏃♂️ Summer Sports Day: Good Neighbours (Jay Dee) and PURDY CONTRACTS LIMITED joined forces to bring back community spirit to the Coldbath and Orchard estate in Greenwich. Purdy provided volunteers to facilitate a day filled with smiles and family fun. 🎭 Clapham Park Funday Carnival: Metropolitan Thames Valley South London and PiLON Ltd collaborated to create a vibrant carnival procession. Young participants, including those with special educational needs, designed costumes and props, learning new skills and fostering community pride. 🧹 Nightingales Community Clear-up Day: SNG (Sovereign Network Group) Projects and ServiceMaster Clean By Deeland facilitated a day of community clean-up and engagement in Berkshire, bringing together local authorities, volunteers, and community partners to make a visible difference in their neighbourhood. Whether it's through sports, arts, or environmental initiatives, we've seen how Match My Project can multiply impact and bring people together. As we move into the cooler months, we’re excited to see new collaborations emerge. DJ’s contribution to the talent development community shines through his contributions to the many in person and virtual programs organized by the Program team at ATD NYC. Learn more about DJ below: Area of expertise: - Training & Development How do you contribute to the ATD NYC chapter as a volunteer? - I assist the Co-VPs of Programs with the planning and execution of the Programming ATD provides for members and non-members. How would you describe the ATD NYC community in 1-2 sentences? - ATD members in NYC are positive and present. In any event I've attended and in communications outside of events, I'm always wowed by the level of interest and support I feel with my colleagues. What are three words that best describe you? - Upbeat, thoughtful, kind What's your favorite NYC spot? - I'm always gravitating to the Hudson River Parks. I love the whole strip from Battery Park up through Washington Heights, and I love to run along the river. Some stretches could use better pedestrian paths but I've never seen a green space that stretches so long and holds such varied urban character.
