About us
The Australian Health Design Council is a not-for-profit, non-government organisation established in 2011 that provides a forum for all professionals involved in the Australian health design sector to share knowledge, develop expertise, foster research and enhance skills in health facility planning, design and management across both the private and public sectors. Our mission is to be the lead professional organisation sharing knowledge, information, technology, research innovation and experience to promote consistency and enhance the quality and effectiveness of health facility design across all projects (in both the public and private sectors). We thrive to be the prime professional body that facilitates networking between health design professionals across Australia. Our Vision is to be a forum where people can share knowledge and expertise in the field of health facility design. AHDC is in close collaboration with health facility design and construction technology groups across Australia and New Zealand and actively seeks membership from all stakeholders. Members of AHDC have to opportunity to shape our industry and contribute to improving the quality and sustainability of health facility design.

It was an absolute honour to present my research alongside so many inspiring and thought-provoking presentations at the Australian Health Design Council Conference this week. Highlights included 'Innovations in Culturally Appropriate Aged Care' by David Kaunitz and Ka Wai Yeung from Kaunitz Yeung Architecture, 'Perth Children’s Hospice' by James French from Hassell, and 'Designing with Country' by Kim Small from BVN Architecture. My heartfelt thanks to the AHDC committee members for organising and hosting such a fantastic event, and to Morag Lee for chairing our panel session! A particular highlight was the site visit to Campbelltown Hospital, designed by Billard Leece Partnership, on the final day. I look forward to continuing the conversations around designing spaces and places that care for, respect, and support human health, dignity, and worth.

Please help Megan find her treasured object!
Have you seen this LEGO Duplo Grandma figure? Last seen in the foyer University of Technology Sydney Building 1 on Tuesday, she was lost while attending the Australian Health Design Council annual conference. She is about 5 cm tall, with blue pants, red top, grey hair and glasses. Duplowoman, who has an Instagram account @duplowoman , has been my creative companion since found on a beach in the Faroe Islands in July 2016. I have contacted and visited UTS, Aerial Function Centre and Sydney Metro, Security and Lost Property, without success. If you have any leads please be in touch. Thank you, Megan. #lego #duplo #lost #lostlego #sydney the LEGO Group

🌟 First Time at the AHDC Conference! 🌟 What an inspiring experience to attend my first AHDC conference! I had the privilege of co-hosting the HADN networking breakfast alongside some incredible emerging healthcare leaders, and lead a tour of the Campbelltown Hospital project—a development I’ve been closely involved with. A highlight of the conference was also touring the wonderful Maitland Hospital by BVN. It was great to see such a successful outcome for the community. The conference was packed with many insightful speakers who shared thought-provoking ideas and innovative approaches to healthcare design, connection to Country and innovations in the delivery of virtual care models. It was amazing to see the passion for creating spaces that prioritise healing, well-being, and connection. A big thank you to the AHDC team, all the speakers, and the attendees for fostering such a vibrant and collaborative environment. I’m excited to continue these conversations and contribute to shaping the future of healthcare environments! Australian Health Design Council #EmergingLeaders #HealthcareDesign #HADN

Yesterday I attended the Australian Health Design Conference, and it was an incredibly insightful experience! One highlight for me was the presentation by Brian Niven on Healthcare Configerator: Accelerating Healthcare Design and Delivery. It resonated deeply with the Explore, Design, Create methodology we embrace at Evoke Projects to Design and Build spaces that truly work for healthcare. Conferences like this inspire us to think innovatively about healthcare environments and their future. Thank you to the organizers and speakers for such an enriching event! 👏 #HealthDesign #Innovation #Healthcare #EvokeProjects #Australianhealthdesign Rebecca Reid Jerry Kennard Allister Svendsen

Two inspiring days at the Australian Health Design Council Conference with Emily Kilvington Ahead of the Curve: Emerging ideas in healthcare design. The health sector is such a fast-moving space, and it was great to hear insights from some of the leading voices about how we’re meeting the design challenges we face and designing genuinely inclusive health environments. Good to see some of NH Architecture work on the Mental Health Beds Expansion Program displayed as an exemplar project with many other innovative work. A coupe of highlights: Hearing Chloe Piper and her PHD thesis on Architecture of Compassion where she goes deep in the realm of Trauma Informed Design and Salutogenic principles to answer the question: How can healthcare architecture play an active role in trauma recovery? And the panel: Challenging the myths through Virtual Care during which the powerhouses Miranda Shaw, Suzanne M. Miller, MD, FACEP, FACEM, GAICD and @samantha Prime discussed virtual care and its potential to reshape healthcare systems. Alison L Huynh and @HADN organised a great networking breakfast on day 2 which led to wonderful new connections.

Now in its third year, the Australian Health Design Conference has gone from strength to strength. SPH Director Lisa Hunt and Associate Amanda Hendry have been attending this year to hear about emerging trends in Healthcare and learning from like minded professionals. To discuss the state of the health industry across state borders and international waters has been a true pleasure. Our communities are unique but our challenges and aspirations are common. What a whirlwind couple of days in Sydney this week at the Australian Health Design Council conference with my colleague Aurelia Gachet. The health sector is such a fast-moving space, and it was great to hear insights from leading voices. Great to see our NH Architecture and NTC Architects Mental Health Beds Expansion Projects on display with a select group of other project exemplars.
