Happy Monday! Did you know that last Friday was Red Lippy Day (and we are currently in Red Lippy May)? Red Lippy Day is in support of people living with dementia and in memory of all those who left red lipstick kisses on our cheeks. Its purpose is to fundraise for Bright Copper Kettles, a community interest company that helps older people in care homes live an engaged life through fun and meaningful activities, promoting dignity and wellbeing. I know that wearing red lippy makes me feel great, so it was interesting to learn about recent studies that have shown that applying red lipstick can have profound benefits for those living with dementia. The act of applying red lipstick can boost confidence, stimulate the brain, facilitate communication, and create positive associations for people living with dementia. It's a small but impactful way to improve their quality of life. To find out more about why red lippy is so powerful and how you can support the cause, check out this article from Bright Copper Kettles: https://lnkd.in/ezyMdsdf P.S. In addition to my personal donation, I’ll be donating a further £1 for everyone who helps raise awareness by posting a photo on social media of yourself wearing red lippy or with a red lipstick kiss on your cheek. Alternatively, a pic of your fabulous loved one with dementia. Just tag me in with the hashtags #BeMoreRED and #RedLippyDay. #RedLippyMay #DementiaCare

Continuing our LinkedIn edition of our 12 Days of Giving Campaign... As we work toward a future where no parent faces postpartum struggles alone, we’re deeply grateful for the incredible partners who share our vision. Postpartum depression (PPD) doesn’t just affect new mothers—it can affect the whole family. Research shows that non-birthing partners can experience PPD themselves, with symptoms like anxiety, irritability, sleep disturbances, and feelings of isolation. These challenges are often under-discussed, but they play a vital role in shaping the mental health of the entire family unit. At Pacific Postpartum Support Society (PPPSS), partner support groups provide a safe space for non-birthing partners to connect, share experiences, and access mental health resources. Through these groups, partners can share and hear from people going through the same experiences as them, creating a space where they feel less alone. Check out our carousel to hear what partners had to say about our support groups. By supporting PPPSS, you’re not just helping parents—you’re supporting entire families. Your donation enables us to continue offering essential partner support groups and resources that have a lasting impact on family well-being. Join us in making a difference for parents and families in need by donating to our 12 Days of Giving campaign. Every contribution counts! Keratoconus (KC) is a disorder of the eye that results in progressive thinning of the cornea. This may result in blurry vision, double vision, nearsightedness, irregular astigmatism, and light sensitivity leading to poor quality-of-life. Usually both eyes are affected. In more severe cases a scarring or a circle may be seen within the cornea. People with early keratoconus often notice a minor blurring or distortion of their vision, as well as an increased sensitivity to light, and visit their clinician seeking corrective lenses for reading or driving. At early stages, the symptoms of keratoconus may be no different from those of any other refractive defect of the eye. As the disease progresses, vision deteriorates, sometimes rapidly due to irregular astigmatism.Visual acuity becomes impaired at all distances, and night vision is often poor. Some individuals have vision in one eye that is markedly worse than the other eye. The disease is often bilateral, though asymmetrical. Some develop photophobia (sensitivity to bright light), eye strain from squinting in order to read, or itching in the eye,but there is normally little or no sensation of pain. It may cause luminous objects to appear as cylindrical pipes with the same intensity at all points. #muaawin #meinmuaawinhun #wepromiselight #humanity #freedom #volunteer #donate #volunteerism #socialwork #donatetohelp #philanthropy #nonprofit #nonprofitirganization #youthempowerment #community #comunitywork #helpingothers #fundraising

It’s the most wonderful time of the year—and the most generous. Join the #GivingTuesday movement and give back to causes you care about. This Giving Tuesday, consider donating to HRI's Give Hope, Drive Change campaign to support life-changing research for mental health and substance use health. The transition to adulthood is a critical time, but many young people face unique challenges that leave them vulnerable to mental health struggles. That's why HRI is expanding our efforts to help transition-age youth. Your gift will help drive research forward — launching new studies, identifying new treatments and building partnerships to uncover the solutions we urgently need. Together, we can bring real hope to young adults facing mental health and substance use challenges. Make a one-time donation or become a monthly donor to support vital research throughout the year. Donate by December 31st and our partners at Homewood Health will match your gift, dollar-for-dollar, doubling your impact. #MentalHealthResearch #SubstanceUse #SubstanceUseHealth #addictionmedicine #MentalHealth

As we approach the end of our fiscal year, we find ourselves facing a critical challenge. Be Strong Families has a $15,000 funding gap we urgently need to fill by June 30, 2024. Did you know in 2023, the US Surgeon General declared an epidemic on loneliness? Claiming our communities are starved of social connection and community, warning us of the profound threat it holds on our health, including about a 50% increased risk of dementia and other serious medical conditions. Finding community is no longer a suggestion—it is necessary! This is where Be Strong Families steps in. We're dedicated to combating social isolation in every thread of who we are and what we do. That's why our mission is Reweaving the Fabric of Society: One Conversation at a Time. From fostering meaningful conversations, creating community, providing opportunities, and letting that model grow and thrive throughout the world. How do we do this? Through our Cafés, our youth leadership programs, our products, our trainings and webinars on topics like avoiding burnout, impacting addiction with family training and empowerment, how parents and teachers can combat racism in children, and so much more! We need your help to expand and develop our reach into areas where our impact is needed most. Every donation, purchase, and share of this email brings us closer to bridging this funding gap and making a real difference in the lives of our community. Social connections are like muscles, if you don't use them you can loose them 💪💜💪 New research found that loneliness peaks later in life unless you work to maintain your social connections. Studies have found that loneliness is a threat to your health and is linked to heart disease, dementia and depression. Research suggests approximately 4-6 meaningful relationships are enough to maintain ‘social fitness’ and fight off loneliness. 🥰⭐🥰 This is why our group befriending sessions are so important for our community to stay socially fit! #TTTB #Charity #OvercomingLonelinessTogether #SocialFitness #FightOffLoneliness

As a mental health professional, I have witnessed firsthand the profound impact that accessible mental health services can have on individuals and families. That’s why I am so passionate about our Ripple Effect Program at Step By Step Counseling. I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals who’ve faced unimaginable struggles—people who felt lost, overwhelmed, and uncertain about their futures. I've worked with families that need services but can only afford to send one person at a time through therapy. Through the support provided by this program (whether through individuals, small businesses or non-profits like love will foundation) I’ve seen lives transformed. Clients who felt disconnected have tapped into their strengths, learned to handle their challenges, and are finding happiness once more. This initiative is more than just a service; it’s a lifeline for many in our community who face barriers to receiving the help they need. I’ve seen clients transform their lives through counseling, gaining the tools to navigate their challenges, build resilience, and foster healthier relationships. By providing free or discounted sessions and encouraging a culture of giving back, we are creating a supportive network and community where kindness can flourish. I've also watched how a provider was able to access a free EMDR training, and in return, was able to support so many foster & adoptive youth in their clinical caseload. The impact on that small gesture has been creating waves of impact year after year. I genuinely believe that together, we can create a community where everyone has access to the mental health support they need to thrive. I have a dream of building our scholarship option for families who are struggling to afford their copays or deductibles for our intensive outpatient therapy, groups and therapy that can be difficult for many to afford. I believe that everyone deserves access to the support they need, regardless of their financial situation. With your help, we can turn this dream into a reality and ensure that no family has to choose between their mental health and their financial well-being. This program is truly life-changing for so many. I invite you to join us in making a difference. If you're not able to, do you know a businesses that have a corporate social responsiblity funds, philanthropic funds, community grants, corporate giving programs or community development funds? We'd love for you to introduce us to them, as we are exploring partnerships that can support mental health initiatives. Together, we can build a stronger, more connected community, where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Thank you for being part of this journey with us. https://lnkd.in/gF3b5Ekv
🌊 Pay it Forward: A Mental Health Initiative 🌊 As we enter the 4th quarter of the year, a time often marked by reflection and giving, it’s crucial to consider how we can support one another in meaningful ways. At Step By Step Counseling, we are so grateful for our Ripple Effect Program, a unique initiative aimed at making mental health services accessible to all. The Good Deeds Dominoes Concept Inspired by the power of kindness, this initiative encourages everyone to perform random acts of kindness, creating a chain reaction of generosity. Whether it’s offering a free counseling session or supporting organizations like the Love Will Foundation, every act counts! Why This Matters Access to mental health services is often hindered by financial barriers, leaving many without the support they need. By providing free or discounted counseling sessions, we can transform lives and foster healthier, more resilient communities. Those who receive support may also be inspired to pay it forward, perpetuating a cycle of kindness. How You Can Help As businesses and individuals look for ways to give back in this final quarter, consider how initiatives or programs like ours can help you donate to causes you’re passionate about in your community. Some examples: --> Individuals: A gift of $200 can fund a month of group sessions for a community member. Smaller contributions can also make a difference for those who need support with copays or work with our interns. --> Non-Profits: Partner with us to provide funds or donated sessions for mutual clients in need. --> Small Businesses: Join us in creating scholarship funds or matching employer contributions to support specific concerns like suicide, trauma, or autism (or whatever you are passionate about!) --> Community: Donate used toys or resources for low income in-home sessions, sponsor clinician training, or get creative with your own ideas! Together, we can break down barriers and promote the message that seeking help is a sign of strength. 💪 Let’s create a ripple effect of kindness and support! For more information about the Ripple Effect Program and how to get involved, visit our website here. https://lnkd.in/g52nD2qQ #MentalHealth #CommunitySupport #PayItForward #RippleEffect #KindnessCrusade
