Empower Lives. Alleviate Poverty. Shara Foundation.

About us

At Shara Foundation, we are on a mission to create lasting change by addressing the root causes of poverty. OUR MISSION & VISION Alleviating poverty is not just a goal. It is our commitment. We focus on three key pillars: 1. Education 2. Health 3. Youth Empowerment We envision communities free from the chains of poverty, where education is a catalyst for change, health is a fundamental right, and youth are empowered to shape their destinies. OUR APPROACH We collaborate with local partners, engage community leaders, and leverage the strengths of each community to tailor our programs effectively. Our initial focus is on the vibrant youth of Grenada. OUR STORY The Shara Foundation, established in June 2023, has a heartwarming origin rooted in the love and compassion of Sharalee, also known as "Shara" Blaisdell. Shara, along with her husband Ken Blaisdell, adopted an orphan from Grenada. Shara Blaisdell's philosophy, encapsulated in the words, "Every child deserves love and an opportunity to shine," serves as the guiding principle of the foundation. Shara demonstrated her commitment to these words in 2011 when she proudly declared to a US judge that the adopted orphan, Salisha, was the fifth child she had always wanted. With unwavering dedication, Shara vowed to provide the orphan with every possible opportunity to shine. OUR FOUNDER Our Founder, Dr. Salisha Allard-Blaisdell was that child adopted by Shara Blaisdell. She was born into a multigenerational cycle of poverty in Grenada, where she lived in an orphanage, and did not learn to read until age 12. Having been given an opportunity to shine, Dr. Allard-Blaisdell is now a Positive Youth Development Researcher and a dedicated scholar-practitioner in the field of leadership. With over a decade of valuable experience in the nonprofit and public sectors, she brings a wealth of knowledge and a profound commitment to making a positive impact.

#Healing From Orphan to Advocate: What the Shara Foundation 2024 Toy Drive Meant to Me💓 I experienced many highlights (and low moments—we all did) in 2024. One of the highlights that deeply resonated with me was working on the Shara Foundation 2024 Toy Drive. I had two main goals: for each resident to receive a gift, and a personalized holiday card. Why were these goals so important to me, you may ask? Growing up in an orphanage in Grenada, I was 9 years old when I first began living in a home. I cannot recall ever having something special—like a toy—that was solely mine. Sure, there were shared toys for all the children to play with, but there’s something profoundly empowering about having something that is uniquely yours. My inner child felt deeply fulfilled when, at the end of the Toy Drive, we received enough gifts for each child (over 70 of them) in all four homes to receive an individual present. Additionally, each home received multiple group gifts, such as games that encourage teamwork and connection through play. What touched me even more was when one of our program directors, Priscilla Vloe, MHA made sure every resident received a personalized card with their name and a special message written just for them. Reflecting on my own childhood in an orphanage, I realized how much this effort would have meant to my younger self. It would have made me feel seen, valued, and loved—not just as part of a group but as an individual, recognized for who I am. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Shara Foundation team, our generous donors, selfless volunteers, and the incredible staff at the Queen Elizabeth Home (and the other three homes too) for helping to heal my inner child through this effort. To the management and staff of the Queen Elizabeth Home, thank you for empowering and nurturing the precious residents in your care. May our Father in Heaven bless you abundantly as you continue your work with these wonderful children. I look forward to sharing updates about the other homes soon, but today I wanted to reflect on and celebrate this beautiful moment showcasing the residents and staff of the Queen Elizabeth Home. #EveryChildMatters #HealingHearts #SharaFoundation

  • 🌟 Spreading Holiday Cheer!🎄✉️ Salisha Marryshow, one of our dedicated Board members, arrived in Grenada just a few days ago and has already hit the ground running! Yesterday, she spent part of her day delivering personalized holiday cards to bring joy and warm wishes to the residents we serve. She delivered a total of 73 holiday cards addressed to each resident of the following homes: ✔️Queen Elizabeth Home for Children – 22 ✔️Bel Air Home for Children – 17 ✔️SMILES Home for Girls – 19 ✔️Father Mallaghan Home for Boys – 15 This heartfelt effort was made possible through the amazing collaboration of several members of our team: ✨ Priscilla Vloe, MHA, Director of the Dr. SAB Health Aid Program spearheaded this initiative; she purchased a beautiful collection of holiday cards and crafted personalized greetings for each resident. ✨Marjorie Abankwa and Marjorieta Abankwa, two incredible volunteers carefully hand-wrote the names of each resident in the cards. ✨ Salisha Allard-Blaisdell, PhD (Dr. SAB), our Executive Director, personally signed and sealed every single card, ensuring they were filled with love and care before mailing them to our Board member for delivery. Thank you to everyone who made this possible! Together, we continue to spread joy, one thoughtful act at a time. ❤️ #happyholidays🎄❤️ #SharaFoundation #HolidayCheer #Grenada #YouthEmpowerment #Christmas2024

  • 🎁 2024 Holiday Drive: A Heartfelt Thank You! 🎁 Today is an exciting day as we celebrate the success of our 2024 Holiday Toy Drive! Thanks to the incredible generosity and love from so many supporters, we have successfully completed our efforts to bring joy to the children in the Bel Air and Queen Elizabeth Homes, as well as the SMILES Home for Girls and Father Mallaghan Home for Boys, all of which are located in Grenada. 💖 Highlights from the 2024 Toy Drive:💖 ♾️Utah families, including children as young as 7, donated gifts and wrote sweet notes to the children. ♾️A senior adult went out of her way to drop off toys late at night to ensure they were shipped on time. ♾️A generous donor used her family’s discount with a major shipping company and paid the fees to rush toys to New York for shipment to Grenada. ♾️Shara Blaisdell, along with her youngest daughter and husband, drove over six hours from Nevada to not only attend a family function in Utah but to also transport donated toys from Nevada to Utah. Shara, her husband Ken, Brianne, Kaelyn Rai, two volunteers (Marjorie and Marjorieta), and Dr. SAB spent hours sorting and labeling toys, ensuring every child in the Bel Air and Queen Elizabeth Homes received a gift. We also ensured that each home received 10+ group gifts (toys/games for multiple players). ♾️A New York-based team member spent two days shopping for holiday gifts for each resident of the SMILES Home for Girls and Father Mallaghan Home for Boys. Group Gifts were also allocated! ♾️A Utah-based team member carried three large suitcases filled with toys to New York before departing for her family holiday vacation. ♾️Kaelyn Rai went to the airport from 9 PM to 11 PM on a school night to assist with luggage check-ins for the Utah-based team member traveling with the gifts. ♾️A New York-based team member left Brooklyn during rush hour to pick up the luggages at the JFK airport in Queens NY before the Utah team member’s final flight departure. ♾️A team member based in the U.S. will be arriving in Grenada a few days before Christmas and will deliver personalized holiday cards to the Home for the children. We cannot recount all the selfless acts of service that made this drive a true success. We are deeply grateful for the generosity of everyone who contributed toys, candies, cash, time, and kind words of love and empowerment for the children. We are deeply grateful to everyone who donated toys, candies, cash, their time, and love to make this holiday season special. ❤️ Your kindness and selflessness are what make this all possible. 🌟 The toys/gfits are en route to Grenada and are expected to arrive on time for Christmas! We can't wait for the children to receive their gifts and feel the love that has been poured into every effort. Again, thank you to everyone who has contributed to sharing the joy of this holiday season with these precious children and youth. #HolidayDrive2024 #Gratitude #CommunityLove #MakingADifference
