We were proud to host the Concurrent Disorders Think Tank on December 4, 2024, in collaboration with the Can Centre on Substance Use and Addiction / Centre can sur les dépendances et l’usage de substances (CCSA). This event brought together 47 experts from across Canada to discuss best practices, gaps, and research priorities for assessing, treating, and promoting the health and well-being of individuals with concurrent mental health and substance use health disorders. Participants included individuals from academia, clinical and research organizations, individuals with lived and living experience, health policy leaders, decision-makers, and health information analysts. The Think Tank marks the beginning of important collaborative efforts to address critical challenges in the field. Together, we are committed to driving meaningful change and improving outcomes for those living with concurrent disorders. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this essential dialogue and to the partnerships shaping the future of research and care! As the mental health and addiction crisis deepens, the conversation around #involuntarytreatment is growing more urgent. While many healthcare providers, policymakers, and families support this approach, others raise concerns about its ethical implications and its overall effectiveness. Join us for our upcoming HRI Talks, where we shift the focus from politics to the real people affected by these issues. Our expert speakers offer a range of perspectives, from personal experience to years of clinical and research expertise. We’ll explore the evidence comparing the effectiveness of involuntary versus voluntary treatment, while also considering the ethical and personal factors involved in the ongoing debate over treatment strategies and limited resources. You can register for the event at this link: https://lnkd.in/g6Mta_CY #MentalHealthResearch #SubstanceUse #SubstanceUseHealth #addictionmedicine #MentalHealth
