We are delighted to announce that GSA has formed a new joint venture with Nuveen, a TIAA company, on behalf of parent company TIAA, and signed an agreement to acquire the YouFirst Campus portfolio in France from Gecina for c.€540 million. The transaction secures entry into the French student housing market for both GSA and Nuveen, extending our respective pan-European PBSA footprints. The JV will acquire Gecina’s student housing portfolio of over 3,600 beds across 18 operational assets in Bordeaux, Lille, Lyon, Marseille and Paris, providing immediate scale and market presence across the country’s leading educational cities. The portfolio also includes four development sites in Paris creating an accretive pipeline that aligns to the JV’s value add and long-term strategy. Upon completion of the transaction, the spaces will be operated by our global operating partner Yugo, who will deliver an enhanced experience for students and scope for operational efficiencies. This is another step forward for GSA as we continue to implement our European growth strategy, and maintains the momentum from our entry into Italy in November. This further diversification of our portfolio means that GSA is now the world’s most globally diversified student housing investor and asset manager and well positioned for future growth. Following the Irish #GE2024 election, we're calling on the Government to have greater engagement with #PBSA providers, universities and other stakeholders, to establish how we can all work together to deliver the much needed student housing in the country. Student housing is an integral part of any residential mix, but it is often overlooked by policy makers seeking to address housing supply. Addressing regulatory barriers, offering targeted incentives and fostering stronger partnerships could transform a political manifesto from a well-meaning plan into a practical roadmap for solving Ireland’s student accommodation crisis. Yesterday, Victor Lor, Head of Investment Management Asia Pacific at GSA, participated in the inaugural State of the Sector – PBSA in Australia 2024 event established by the Property Council of Australia's Student Accommodation Council.    Discussing the investment potential of the PBSA sector in Australia, it's clear that it continues to attract investment from a growing number of global and domestic investors looking to the broader living sector to deliver more resilient returns. With a leadership team that has developed and managed over 7,000 beds across the top educational cities of Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide, this is a trend that GSA has seen emerging as the sector continues to mature and institutionalise.   Thank you to the Property Council of Australia and the Student Accommodation Council for bringing together investors, owners, operators, and sector experts from across the country leading the conversation on the future of PBSA in Australia.
