Following the Irish #GE2024 election, we're calling on the Government to have greater engagement with #PBSA providers, universities and other stakeholders, to establish how we can all work together to deliver the much needed student housing in the country. Student housing is an integral part of any residential mix, but it is often overlooked by policy makers seeking to address housing supply. Addressing regulatory barriers, offering targeted incentives and fostering stronger partnerships could transform a political manifesto from a well-meaning plan into a practical roadmap for solving Ireland’s student accommodation crisis. The recent article from Colm Lauder examines the complexities of increasing supply of PBSA in Ireland and outlines an approach that could unlock the sector, benefiting students, universities, and the wider residential market. #studentaccommodation #studenthousing
Unsurprisingly, housing is the major concern for voters in the Irish #GE2024, with the main political parties publishing significant policies addressing first-time buyer supports, social housing, and the private rental market. However, the student housing sector has been largely overlooked. Regulatory changes in recent years have effectively stifled new supply, as ill-conceived rental controls, coupled with mandated shorter leases, have further undermined any remaining viability in Ireland’s student accommodation market. My latest assessment in the week's Business Post examines diverging policies towards #PBSA and how a complete lack of engagement by policy makers (Government and Opposition alike) with industry has fostered considerable distrust in Ireland for international investors. https://lnkd.in/dJFEirW5 #studentaccommodation Pat Farrell David Duffy GSA - Global Student Accommodation Novel Student ScholarLee Student Brian Moran Hines Gregory K.
