About us

Making extraordinary art accessible to all is at the heart of everything we do. Artichoke works with artists to invade public spaces. From London to Liverpool, Durham and Derry~Londonderry, we have produced ambitious public art in cities, the countryside and on coastlines around the UK. We have created some of the most celebrated outdoor art in recent times, including the UK’s light art biennial, Lumiere, The Sultan’s Elephant, Antony Gormley’s One & Other Fourth Plinth commission and PROCESSIONS, a mass participation artwork celebrating 100 years since some women won the right to vote.

  • “I've learnt so much this week! Circus skills was one of the coolest things I've ever done. I've never really done clubs before and it was a really cool experience for me.” - Amelia, Summer School Participant Over the course of a week last summer, local young people from low-income families took part in a free week-long programme of creative workshops led by multi-media artist Tasnim Mahdy, venturing into everything from cyanotypes and claymation, to circus skills with National Centre for Circus Arts. Now, we are raising money to fund the third year of the Artichoke Summer School in Tower Hamlets in 2025. As part of The Big Give #ChristmasChallenge, all the donations we receive until 10 December are doubled! With only 1 day remaining, we're counting on your support to raise £2,288 and reach our £10,000 goal. Help us cross the finish line - visit the link in the captions to donate! ❤🔗 Thank you to our Champion Funder The Childhood Trust, and Pledge Funder Aldgate Connect BID, who are matching ALL DONATIONS during the week. 🎥 Filmed and edited by Rob Hill.

  • “For a lot of us, art isn't accessible. I'm a self-taught artist and everything I've learnt is via facilitating - going to summer programmes like these when I was growing up in Egypt really changed the course of my life. It’s important that we support them, so that everybody can access art” - Tasnim Mahdy, Summer School Facilitator. With just 4 days remaining in The Big Give #ChristmasChallenge, we're counting on your support to raise £5,470 and reach our £10,000 goal. Donations are being doubled today and all weekend, so there’s no better time to make a difference. ✌ That's one donation, with TWICE the impact. The clock is ticking! Let’s go further before the campaign ends. • ✨ We’re thrilled to announce that we’re taking part in the Big Give #ChristmasChallenge! ✨ This week-long campaign is a chance to make a real difference in the lives of young people from low-income families, helping them unlock their creativity and build confidence through art. Every penny we raise will go directly toward funding the Artichoke Summer School next year — a free, week-long programme of creative workshops designed to inspire and empower local young people during the school holidays. The arts are so much more than just an outlet; they’re a lifeline. They foster self-expression, nurture talent, and give young people the tools to dream big. We believe every child deserves access to opportunities like this, regardless of their circumstances. 🎨 🤲 And here’s the best part: thanks to match funding from our Champion Funder, The Childhood Trust, and our Pledge Funder Aldgate Connect BID, every donation you make will be doubled, making your generosity go even further. The campaign goes live on #GivingTuesday and we will be receiving donations between 3 - 10 December. Can you help us reach our goal of £10,000? If you would like to donate during the campaign, please contact our Individuals and Trusts Manager Shawnique W., with your pledge. Once the campaign is live, we will get in touch with instructions on how you can make your donation. Please share the campaign with your networks – anyone who may be interested in having their donation doubled! 💬 🔗 Find out more via the link in the caption. 📸: Summer School, August 2024. • Take a look at our updated showreel! 🎥✨ Artichoke was founded in 2005 to bring The Sultan’s Elephant by Royale de Luxe to central London. For the first time, streets normally reserved for state occasions or sporting events were taken over by art. The Elephant changed the landscape for outdoor art forever and catapulted Artichoke into the public eye. We have continued to work with artists ever since, with the aim of producing unique, large-scale experiences that appeal to the widest possible audience. Our updated our showreel includes some of our more recent works, such as HERD, The Gallery, Babylon Gamelan and Lumiere. 👀 Take a look and let us know what you think in the comments! 🎥: Edited by Clara Carbajo. https://lnkd.in/eATWSmKD
