On December 14, 1986, the Rutan Model 76 Voyager took off from Edwards Air Force Base in California on its epic journey to become the first aircraft to fly around the world without stopping or refuelling. Piloted by Dick Rutan and Jeana Yeager, the flight ended 9 days, 3 minutes and 44 seconds later, on December 23rd, setting a flight endurance record. Mobil was a key sponsor for the flight, and even provided a new type of synthetic aviation oil formulated to help enable optimal engine performance – a critical capability on such a long flight without refuelling – and provide long-lasting protection, another vital factor on a nonstop flight around the world. Canada’s largest airline fleet and passenger, Air Canada, serves 207 destinations all over the world with more than 1,500 scheduled flights every day. Priding itself on providing trouble-free, dependable service, it wanted to go beyond being simply reliable and was looking to make further improvements. Over a period of four years, Air Canada worked with ExxonMobil’s aviation experts to test Mobil Jet Oil 387 jet turbine oil on a number of engine technologies. Offering a wide range of performance benefits, the decision was made and Air Canada converted to Mobil Jet Oil 387 as a fleetwide solution for its aircraft. By minimizing engine repair and maintenance costs, Mobil Jet Oil 387 jet turbine oil is keeping more flights on track than ever before and helping Air Canada deliver on its mission to provide customers with a service they can rely on.
