About us

Founded in 1919, the Baytown Refinery began operation in 1920 and the Chemical Plant started up in 1940. The complex is located on approximately 3,400 acres along the Houston Ship Channel, about 25 miles east of Houston. It is comprised of four manufacturing sites, including one in nearby Mont Belvieu, and a global technology center. Employing a workforce of approximately 7,000, the Baytown area sites are highly integrated which makes the plants and products more efficient. We are developing technologies to make cleaner fuels and are working together to operate more safely and reliably. • Saturday marked the 80th anniversary of Billion Gallon Day! * * * * On December 14, 1944, Baytown made history as the refinery became the first in the world to produce ONE BILLION gallons of 100-octane aviation gasoline—a fuel that helped power Allied victory in WWII. This milestone was a testament to the ingenuity, resilience, and teamwork of thousands of workers. Let's honor their legacy and celebrate the innovation and community spirit that continues to define Baytown. #BillionGallonDay #BaytownHistory #FuelingHistory

  • This #americarecyclesday, we’re celebrating Kristin Henningson! Kristin goes the extra mile by collecting her family’s plastic film waste and taking it to our Spring campus for recycling opportunities. Less than 10% of plastics are recycled today, while the rest goes to landfill, incineration, or worse, the environment. Kristin’s efforts remind us all that small, consistent actions can make a big impact on reducing waste and protecting our planet. Thank you, Kristin, for being an inspiring example of how we can all contribute to a more sustainable future. #whyIrecycle
