£1500 later....... 🛳 That's the cost we paid last week to rectify an issue. 💰 In January we booked a cruise for a couple where the wife has MND so needed an accessible cabin. Always hard to come by if not booking way in advance but we managed to get one for a July sailing 😀 Fast forward to last week when the client had filled in the special assistance form and then boom! 💣 ...... we were told there were not enough evacuation chairs on the cruise to cover this client and due to new maritime laws they could no longer go on the sailing! 😵💫 We couldn't possible go back to the client with this without trying to get a resolution. This could potentially be their last trip due to the MND so finding something for next year was not an option. We tried everything possible to keep them on the sailing without success so , with very little confidence, checked alternatives for this year and....... by some miracle another accessible cabin was available for another July sailing with an evacuation chair 💺 The cost..... an extra £1500 as now departing during school holidays. The solution...... we couldn't put this cost on the client so we took the hit but the main outcome is we found a solution. 🙌 #solution #cruise #findaway

Here’s why we think fixed hourly rate programs are not a good deal. At Jet Members, we can offer something far better. Imagine, if you will, going into a popular restaurant with the insight that reservations are essential, you’ve pre-ordered and paid a deposit, only to find on the day the restaurant is half full and taking walk-ins, and what’s worse, they are running a special on your meal 30% lower than what you are being charged, with no chance of a reduction to your bill – would you be happy? You shouldn’t be, and it would be even worse if you were stuck into such agreements. It’s a similar story with 'fixed rate' Jet Cards - when aviation companies offer a block of hours at a fixed rate throughout the agreement – offered with the pretence that you have guaranteed availability on a fleet of aircraft, but are paying a premium every time and not necessarily getting any difference in service / product, when compared to someone who is looking for a one off trip and getting the same aircraft at a substantially lower price – the market price. Unless you really aren’t concerned with the cost (which would find you in the minority, even in private aviation), can you have the best of both worlds; namely guaranteed availability at a preset price, but the option to take the lower market price (true cost) if and when it was available? Last week presented significant challenges for both our customers and employees as we navigated a series of major service disruptions. In a single day, we lost two vessels and temporarily a third on our Anacortes/San Juan Islands route due to mechanical issues. Additionally, we've faced an increase in crewing cancellations. This setback is especially hard to digest as we recently celebrated our first week without any canceled sailings due to crew related shortages since the pandemic began. Leading through such adversity requires resilience and a forward-looking mindset. While these challenges are difficult, they also present opportunities for growth and improvement. At Washinginton State Ferries we are committed to finding solutions that not only address our current issues but also build a more robust and resilient system for the future. Though there will undoubtedly be more bumps, cancellations, and disruptions along the way, I am confident in our team's ability to navigate these challenges. Together, we will transform these obstacles into opportunities, ensuring a stronger, more reliable service for all.
