We recently welcomed university students from SeaFocus International Intelligence Hunt programme to our HQ in London. This talented group will be helping us to analyse data from Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) calls made to Inmarsat Maritime this year, to gain insights into safety trends and find any patterns. Most of the day was spent exploring lessons learned from the 2024 safety report and planning the new report, but we also managed to squeeze in a tour of our Network Operations Centre (NOC), stage a safety scenario and run a virtual reality competition. We hope that spending valuable time together during the workshop helped the team to get under the skin of our business a little and understand just how much we prioritise safety, it's in our DNA after all. We know crew connectivity is high on the agenda for shipping companies looking to attract seafarers and improve crew welfare, so we asked our LinkedIn followers about their investment in crew connectivity over the past year. Unsurprisingly, 87% said they had invested significantly. You can read our report 'The Digital Wave', to hear the perspectives of some of the leading shipping companies about how their vessels are becoming floating offices and homes.
