Last year, a client of mine came back from charter on a boat that had many issues. Upon checking out from the boat he complained to the charter base manager, who agreed to provide my client a refund of 30% of his charter cost by wire transfer. I asked my client if he wanted me to intervene on my end, but my client thought that was unnecessary, given that he had a signed paper stating the terms. Weeks and months went by and the money never showed up. The client contacted the charter company directly to inquire about his refund, and when the company found out he was my client - they sent him back my way, saying they cannot speak with clients who booked through an agent. Once I found out about it, I communicated with the charter company and my client received the refund within 48 hours. The lesson is, that while charter companies work directly with clients to book charters, they don't always provide the best before and after charter service. If you work with an agent - then the service level is much higher and the turn around is faster.
