As a board member, I cannot be more proud of Rebuilding Together Peninsula and the work they do for our community. RTP makes repairs to homes to make them safe for the occupants. Here is a recent example. A woman was living in this home with front steps that were rotting out and getting treacherous. The home was red-tagged due to this hazardous condition. The owner was not able to afford the cost of replacing the stairs, and was faced with having to leave her home of many years. RTP came in and removed the old steps, replacing them with nice, secure new steps and handrails. That made it easy and safe for her to get in and out of her home, and assured that she would be able to remain in the home. This is what RTP does, in a nutshell. They work to make people’s home livable. Each year we accept a number of projects based on need and urgency. Donations to RTP pay for materials, and all labor is donated. The more contributions we receive, the more projects we are able to accept, and also projects with potentially larger scope. This past year I have proudly dedicated my time as a Board member and Volunteer to Humble Design Chicago. They provide design services, donated furniture, bedding, kitchen items, curtains and everything else that goes into turning a house into a home for families that have successfully fought their way out of homelessness at no cost.  Our work takes away the stress from our clients so that they can successfully focus on their families and their jobs, while being proud of what they have accomplished.  This year we have seen an uptick in the amount of mothers, children and veterans seeking a fresh start. Our organization needs more support than ever to meet the increasing demand. We are seeking humble monetary donations from our Humble friends to help. It’s an investment that changes lives and our communities, as less than 6% of Humble Design clients return to homelessness after one year, compared with the national statistic of 50%.Just as we help our family and friends when they get their first place and have significant life changes, I would like to raise enough to help at least one family make this transition.  Each deco day moves children off the floor and puts them into warm beds, give their parents peace of mind and hope, and allow families to gather and plan their futures around a kitchen table.Can I please get your help towards my goal by making a donation?
