Groundbreaking suicide prevention research led by Le Va’s chief executive, Denise Kingi-Uluave, has recently been published in the internationally renowned academic journal Crisis. It highlights the transformative impact of LifeKeepers – Le Va’s national suicide prevention training programme – an initiative that is funded by the Ministry of Health New Zealand and is changing the suicide prevention landscape in Aotearoa. The findings are based on nearly 6,000 New Zealanders participating in the study, making it one of the largest gatekeepers suicide prevention research of its kind in Aotearoa and globally. “Many people at risk of suicide, especially our young people, often do not seek or have access to mental health services or support prior to engaging in suicidal behaviours. That is why it is critical that every person in Aotearoa knows how to spot the signs that someone is in distress and has the confidence to ask them directly if they are thinking about taking their life. It’s not easy but it could save a life and we have evidence the training has equipped people to do just that,” said Denise. #LikeKeepers #SuicidePrevention More here - https://lnkd.in/g2D3V7jb

#ICYMI Launched at the 7th OECD World Forum on Well-being in Rome OECD - OCDE's flagship report How’s Life? 2024: Well-being and Resilience in Times of Crisis. This 6th edition of How’s Life? shows that while government interventions to address the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis have contributed to the resilience of average incomes and employment outcomes, cost-of-living pressures as evidenced by housing costs and people’s self-reported financial insecurity remain significant for many households. At the same time, there are warning signs in critical non-economic aspects of well-being – most notable in health, subjective well-being and social connectedness. Much stronger action is also needed to maintain today’s well-being for future generations, particularly when it comes to combatting climate change. You can access the report, its key findings as well as country highlights here: https://bit.ly/HiL2024 Also live is the new OECD - OCDE Digital Well-being Hub developed in collaboration with Cisco is now live. In this new Hub, you can explore and learn about the benefits and risks of digital technologies, and it also allows you to report your digital well-being. Help build stronger evidence to support policy makers in better understanding and strengthening people’s well-being in this fast-evolving digital world. Grateful to Gary Gillespie, Pedro Conceição, Katherine Trebeck, Francois Bourguignon for joining me on the last stage of the 7th #OECD World Forum on Well-Being. Thank you for your insights on how to sustain the Beyond GDP momentum, and to make our collective efforts more meaningful and powerful. Four key areas especially call for important attention: 🔄 In economy, we must shift our economic policies and strategies towards ‘triple-win’ solutions that benefit people, the planet, and prosperity, placing equity and sufficiency at the core. 📊 In data, it’s time to innovate and open our data collection and communication processes to ensure information is more timely, granular, and meaningful for people. 🌍 In climate action, let’s turn the climate crisis into an opportunity for impactful change, aiming for the breadth, urgency, and fairness needed for a true green transition. 🤖 In AI, we need swift action to harness AI’s potential responsibly for human well-being, while ensuring it doesn’t deepen inequalities or introduce new risks. 💡 Well-being begins now, and only through unified efforts we can harness our collective potential to make a meaningful impact, enhancing well-being for everyone today and for generations to come. #sustainability #AI #Climateaction #Data #triplewin #wellbeing #OECDForumWellBeingRome2024

At the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) - Toronto, we see how vital it is to invest in mental health care that is accessible, community-focused, and sustainable. The State of Mental Health in Canada 2024 highlights the growing need for services and the immense strain on the community mental health sector. Chronic underfunding has created a wage gap between our sector and other healthcare providers, undermining the work of staff and making it harder to attract and retain skilled professionals. To meet rising demand, we must address this critical issue. A core funding increase would ensure fair wages, stabilize our workforce, and strengthen support for individuals and families. Read the report and join the conversation about building a stronger, more equitable mental health system.
Today, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) released a first-of-its-kind report that paints a stark picture of Canada’s mental health system. By comparing a collection of indicators across all provinces and territories, the report uncovers a harsh reality: Canada is spending far too little on mental health care. CMHA is calling on the federal government to prioritize the mental health and well-being of Canadians, as too many are unable to access the care they need, with mental health services still treated as a privilege rather than a right. A trauma-informed approach is a whole-system coherent organisational response which recognises and acknowledges the ongoing impact of trauma and is reflected in practice. Key facts: 1) people who experience mental health challenges and problematic substance use are more likely to have experienced trauma; 2) the impact of colonisation on trauma for Indigenous populations is significant and ongoing; and 3) people working in health services are reported to have a high prevalence of trauma which may be exacerbated by the working environment. An anti-racism framework: voices of First Nations peoples We're pleased to share this report which serves as a foundational document for the development of a National Anti-Racism Framework, focusing on the most prolific forms of racism experienced by First Nations peoples across Australia. These voices not only highlight the urgent need for action, but also serve as a call for systemic solutions to eradicate racism. The consultations unveiled a complex and pervasive landscape of challenges faced by First Nations communities. This comprehensive analysis highlights the depth of systemic racism and provides critical insights into the recurring themes, specific issues, and profound impacts on First Nations peoples across various sectors and regions. The report's key findings cover: systemic racism, unconscious bias, historical and ongoing impacts of colonisation, over-policing and incarceration, and accountability.
