A trauma-informed approach is a whole-system coherent organisational response which recognises and acknowledges the ongoing impact of trauma and is reflected in practice. Key facts: 1) people who experience mental health challenges and problematic substance use are more likely to have experienced trauma; 2) the impact of colonisation on trauma for Indigenous populations is significant and ongoing; and 3) people working in health services are reported to have a high prevalence of trauma which may be exacerbated by the working environment.
