Where they will be discussing their insights from engaging with Enyorata Loviluku a Tanzanian women's group on its journey to establish itself as a data cooperative. The UN Global Plastics Treaty and the innovation imperative   🌍 It is, of course, extremely disappointing that after two years of international discussions about how to tackle the challenge of plastic pollution, the UN #GlobalPlasticTreaty negotiations have concluded without agreement.   But while this serves as a sober reminder about the complexity of addressing plastic pollution worldwide, it is still clear that there is a collective will to drive change and we must maintain momentum on research and #innovation to deliver a more sustainable future for plastics. Here in the UK, UKRI’s Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging (SSPP) Challenge, delivered by Innovate UK, has been supporting these efforts by providing vital funding to over 80 plastic packaging innovations. From the Mura Technology world-first ReNew ELP chemical recycling plant to the Open Data Manchester CIC Open 3P new data standard for packaging data, and from GoUnpackaged and the Refill Coalition's award-winning refill initiatives to Plastic-i AI-powered platform for mapping plastic pollution – these innovative projects and collaborations are making progress every day.   So while the international community regroups to explore what the future holds for the UN Treaty, it is important to remember that here and across the world, innovations like these continue to lay strong foundations in the drive to tackle waste and #plasticpollution.   Find out more about some of our projects here: https://lnkd.in/dQXKp8zc

Although much of our work is around developing and promoting best practice around data. We also do a lot of work around data and place and how we connect with it. So yesterday as part of our team day we ran one of our Joy Diversions where we encourage people to form groups and go out on their own adventure carrying old maps and a backpack. Being based on the north east side of Manchester city centre we are blessed with an area that exudes the traces of Manchester and the UK's social and industrial upheaval. The team I was with explored the Irk Valley a rapidly disappearing area that prompted Frederich Engels to write The Condition of the Working Class in England and his work with Karl Marx - Engels and Marx used to meet in Chethams Library near the confluence of the Irk and Irwell. Although little remains of that dark era, the Irk valley exudes a bleak and otherworldliness that echoes this time. We have run Joy Diversions all over the UK and it is a great way to explore and marvel at that which is often overlooked.
