What infrastructure is needed for the UK to achieve reusable packaging at scale? Over the past fortnight, GoUnpackaged has brought together a group of brilliant and committed individuals from across the value chain to kick off our latest project, in which we will model out the infrastructure required to deliver reuse at scale in the UK. We’re really excited about this work 🎉 🎉 🎉 We know that reuse presents a huge opportunity for growth for the UK economy, as well as being a key strategy for tackling the problem of single-use packaging. However, when it comes to scaling reuse, a paradigm shift is needed to move from expensive individual trials that struggle to reach commercial viability, towards industry-wide collaboration and lasting system change. To enable true industry collaboration, we need a unified vision of the necessary infrastructure to achieve a high level of reuse in the UK - and with that, we can create a roadmap to get there.  A big thank you to our Advisory Panel, which includes representation from across the whole value chain, for helping us drive forward this really important piece of modelling. We’re looking forward to sharing the results with you all in 2025! • INC5 Statement from the Business Coalition for a Global Plastics Treaty: Despite tireless efforts by the INC Chair and government negotiators to finalise a global plastics treaty, it will not be agreed in Busan, as planned. We are encouraged by the increased alignment amongst over 100 countries on critical elements such as global phase-outs and sustainable levels of plastic production. Never before have so many countries clearly articulated support for these obligations. The latest text from the INC Chair is also a step forward on product design and waste management as a basis for future negotiations. Disappointingly, consensus among all nations remains elusive, which further delays critical action to end plastic pollution. It also fails to deliver the certainty that business needs to mobilise investment and scale solutions. At the resumed INC5.2 session, governments must make a choice. They can continue negotiating a treaty with universal support but little impact. Or they can agree on a treaty based on strong global rules across the full lifecycle of plastics and with a comprehensive financing mechanism, confident in knowing that this is what the majority of governments, business and citizens want. There’s no time to waste: we cannot afford this process sliding into unending negotiations. The 275+ members of the Business Coalition stand ready to work together with policymakers across the world to secure the treaty that business needs, and the majority of nations want. https://lnkd.in/dn87RyFM

  • 📣 This is NOT a drill. With only hours left for negotiations, governments must make a choice. They can continue negotiating a treaty with universal support but little impact. Or they can agree on a treaty based on global rules across the full lifecycle of plastics - confident in knowing that this is what the majority of governments, business and civil society wants. A treaty based on voluntary measures alone will not end plastic pollution and will only exacerbate the fragmented regulatory environment that business is facing. Based on where we are now, there are three possible outcomes for INC-5: ❌ Nothing is agreed, leaving governments considering their options.  😥 A low impact, consensus treaty text is agreed that even the low-ambition group of petrochem states sign onto, which lacks the ambition required to harmonise the policy landscape for business. 🎉 A strong treaty text is agreed between the majority of states, that is underpinned by mandatory global rules, together with national action plans to support implementation. Going into the final hours of negotiations, options 1 and 3 provide a chance for us to achieve what we need. However, there remains a significant risk that option 2 may happen. This will be the first time we have called out that a consensus approach will result in too low ambition, but the time has come to speak out on this given the risk we face with option 2.

  • As part of the Refill Coalition, Ocado Retail is pleased to announce an extension to its Reuse range - reducing the use of single-use plastic on everyday items whilst providing the same quality and value. In addition to Reuse Pasta and Rice, Ocado customers are now able to purchase:   - Ocado Reuse Non-Bio Liquid Detergent 2.7L - Ocado Reuse Clear Skies Fabric Conditioner 2.7L Just type 'reuse' into the Ocado search bar for more info. The Ocado Reuse range is part of the Refill Coalition’s work to develop reusable packaging solutions, in an effort to reduce the use of single-use packaging from customers' weekly shops. This launch follows August’s  highly successful launch of pasta & rice in reusable packaging which has been extremely successful with customers:  ✅ Strong online reviews (pasta 4.9* and rice 4.8*) with 100% of customers recommending the products. ✅ Reuse products reaching nearly 30% sales share of equivalent single-use products ✅ Encouraging vessels return rate, which is increasing week on week as people hand their vessels back with each Ocado shop Read more at www.refillcoalition.com and we wish Ocado Retail every success! #RefillCoalition #SustainableRetail #Innovation #SupplyChain #Reuse
