Happy New Year everyone! December saw the Open Hardware track sift through speaker talks for the #stateofopen #soocon25 in early February. The key words were #expertise, #engaging and #diverse; I think #empowerment plays a part too. There are some great speakers in the #openhardware track, sharing insights on how to make technology work for everyone in an accessible and engaging way. If #opensoftware, #opendata, #openmobile and #opencommunications, #openAI or #openfinance are more your bag, there is plenty for you too. A lovely start to 2025 - becoming an OpenUK Honouree. It's testament to the strength and tenacity of the open tech and data movement that, after 5 years in existence, the list of honourees remains stellar. I'm blessed to have a role at Public Digital that enables me to create the foundations for openness (in all of its forms) in a wide variety of organisations, whilst enabling me to continue my pro bono work at Open Data Manchester CIC and 360Giving. It's the work of organisations like these, and the people within them who do the heavy lifting, that really pushes the boundaries and makes the data ecosystem and institutions more open.
