Thank you to everyone who participated in our latest RACV poll on the legal use of your car horn. Only 11 per cent of respondents selected the correct answer: ‘To warn others of the position of your vehicle.’ While 89 per cent of over 1200 respondents answered incorrectly. Victorian road rule 224 states that motorists can only use a horn to warn other road users or animals of the approach or position of your vehicle. The only other legal use of a horn is if it is part of an anti-theft device or alcohol interlock fitted to the vehicle. The current fine for breaching Victorian car horn rules is $184.92. With bicycle deaths in Victoria up 71 per cent on last year, RACV is calling on governments to improve road safety for people who ride bikes by rolling out more protected bike lanes in strategic corridors across Melbourne. RACV General Manager Mobility Julia Hunter emphasised the critical need for increased investment in bike infrastructure: “RACV believes investing in separated bike infrastructure will increase the uptake of bike riding and save lives. The RACV Bike Superhighway provides a starting point for investment decisions, recognising there may be alternative roads within each corridor that are more feasible to upgrade than others.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/ggpBVpQF
