  •   Who looks at the weather forecast at their holiday destination, but doesn’t check what the weather is doing back at home? A lot of us – new research released by Suncorp shows eight in ten Australians (80%) are failing to plan and properly protect their biggest asset – their home – before heading off on holidays.   Before you enter ‘holiday mode’ Suncorp and SES agency partners from Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria urge all Australians to prepare homes for storms.   Suncorp’s Executive General Manager Home Prevention and Protection Anna Cartwright said: “Before heading off on holidays make sure you trim trees and branches that could potentially fall onto your home or car, clean gutters, downpipes and drains of leaves and debris, and where possible inspect your roof for damaged or loose tiles. Don't forget to secure and put away loose items around your backyard such as outdoor furniture and trampolines as these can turn into dangerous projectiles."   Read more about the research including the top ten severe weather hotspots in your state: https://lnkd.in/gJXM_sUn   Queensland State Emergency Service NSW State Emergency Service Victoria State Emergency Service   #StormSeason #prepare #GetReady

What do mangroves, coastal dunes, green belts and green roofs have in common? They are all examples of nature positive solutions, or ‘green infrastructure’ that help us fight natural disasters like floods and bushfires. Suncorp and Natural Hazards Research Australia have released a discussion paper highlighting the power of using the environment in reducing the impact of disaster. The ‘Nature Positive Disaster Risk Reduction Solutions’ (NPDRRS) discussion paper highlights opportunities for increasing investment in nature-based infrastructure such as wetlands, forests, coastal environments and urban green spaces, as well as practices such as cultural burning, to mitigate the risks of floods, bushfires, sea level rise and other natural hazards. Suncorp Chief Executive Consumer Insurance Lisa Harrison said it was crucial to explore a broad range of solutions and partnerships in developing disaster resilience. “Utilising natural based solutions, like wetlands to help reduce flooding, we can build resilience for communities, creating stronger natural defences and promote nature’s role in risk mitigation," she said. At Suncorp, showing up for our communities when it matters is core to what we do. Which is why we partner with organisations like What Ability, which provides unforgettable experiences for those living with a disability. Suncorp’s national insurer AAMI is the official major partner of What Ability and today, on International Day of People with Disability, we’re reflecting on the importance of supporting meaningful community initiatives, like this one. “It’s about working together to foster a more inclusive and diverse world and at the same time, bringing joy and happiness,” said Chief Executive Consumer Insurance Lisa Harrison. As part of the partnership this year, our employees have attended volunteer days with What Ability, and our senior leaders experienced a ‘day in the life’ of those living with disability. • Just two years after its launch, AAMI Driver Rewards has shown that with consistent usage, users are driving more safely on Aussie roads.     Since being embedded in the AAMI App, more than 300 million kilometres of trip data has been analysed. The results show an improvement across multiple driving behaviours, including acceleration, braking, turning, speeding and phone use.   AAMI spokesperson Mary Kennedy says this data is a positive step towards creating safer roads for all Australians.   “We want to be a leading voice for safer roads,” says Ms Kennedy.   “Investing in a tool like AAMI Driver Rewards allows us to understand the driving behaviours that lead to accidents, and use the insights to encourage road safety in the community.”   Read more about AAMI Driver Rewards and positive driving behaviours: https://lnkd.in/gBUw_FUR #RoadSafety #DrivingBehavior #Innovation
