About us
The Northern Territory Council of Social Service (NTCOSS) is the peak body for the Social and Community Sector in the NT and an advocate for social justice on behalf of people and communities who may be affected by poverty and disadvantage. The NTCOSS team is located in both Darwin and Alice Springs, and for over 40 years has worked with its membership base, government and other stakeholders to strive for better outcomes for Territorians. NTCOSS represents a varied service sector, with members contributing different experiences and perspectives. The Community Sector in the NT is made up of community managed, non-government, not for profit organisations that work in social and community service delivery, sector development and advocacy. The Community Sector plays a vital role in creating social wellbeing for all Territorians and in building safe and healthy communities. The Sector provides services that enable people to access and participate in society, including health, education, employment, economic development and family and community life. NTCOSS members are central to our work and advocacy. As a representative voice of the Sector to government, NTCOSS seeks to strengthen the Sector so that it can continue providing its essential services to the NT community.

Specialist domestic, family and sexual violence services like NTCOSS member Dawn House, make the NT a safer place for Territorians throughout the year and over the Christmas break. We’re ever grateful for the crucial work they do.
Appreciation post to the amazing frontline workers at Dawn House inc. These are just some of the incredible women working every day to create a safe and healing environment for women and children over Christmas. These incredible front line workers consist of Domestic and family Violence intervention worker, Dv counsellors, housing officers and housing pathways case managers and other important roles to keep us running. They are working through the busiest time of year and doing all they can to ensure that our women and children have safe and supported over the Xmas periods. We are at absolutely capacity and it is so hard turning people away when the need is so high. Please remember DFV does not take a Christmas break sadly. A huge thank you- none of this would be possible without these awesome selfless passionate women!! Merry Christmas #teamappriciation #dfv #darwin #frontlinededication

Big congratulations to Yalu Aboriginal Corporation, an incredible NTCOSS member, for their award-winning "Girl Power" program, which recently received the Northern Territory Human Rights Award in the Youth category! 🏆🎉 Communities know how best to address domestic, family, and sexual violence (DFSV), and “Girl Power" is a cutting-edge example of Territory Innovation and crime prevention. By creating safe spaces for young First Nations women to build confidence, reconnect with culture, and develop leadership skills, the program is shaping a brighter future while tackling the root causes of harm.💪🏿💛🔥 Their success showcases how healing and prevention go hand in hand. Through mentorship, education, and cultural pride, "Girl Power" is reducing vulnerability to DFSV and building stronger, safer communities. Let’s celebrate this groundbreaking program and its impact as a model for cutting-edge, community-driven solutions that prevent crime and create lasting change. 🙌✨ #GirlPowerNT #NTCOSS #HumanRightsAward #TerritoryInnovation #CrimePrevention #HealingThroughCulture #CommunityLeadership

U Right Sis? is a primary prevention program aimed at empowering communities to identify and respond to technology-facilitated abuse in Central Australia. U Right Sis? develops resources that aim to increase digital literacy so that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and girls can keep themselves safe online. The program is a partnership between Her Story, Women’s Safety Services of Central Australia (WoSSCA) and Kunga Stopping Violence Program (Kungas); and it’s helping First Nations kids tune out online voices that disrespect women and girls, and #TurnUpRespect. @urightsis #URightSis #DigitalSafety #endgenderbasedviolence

🌟 Jessy’s Story: Community-Led Solutions for a Safer Future 🌟 Jessy’s Story is more than just an animation—it’s a testament to the power of community-led solutions in addressing the impact of domestic, family, and sexual violence (DFSV) on children. Created by Tangentyere Family Violence Prevention Program, this video shows what’s possible when communities are supported with the resources they need to lead their own healing. It highlights the strength, resilience, and vision within our communities to break cycles of harm and build safe, nurturing environments for children. 💛 📺 Watch here: https://lnkd.in/gK-S9Sus #JessysStory #DFSV #CommunityLedSolutions #FundingChange #SupportChildren #StrongerTogether

The Northern Territory is “Better Because” of Men’s Behaviour Change Programs. These programs play a critical role in addressing domestic, family, and sexual violence by helping men take responsibility for their actions and learn healthier, non-violent ways to relate to others. Men’s Behaviour Change Programs provide an essential pathway for individuals committed to breaking the cycle of violence, offering tools for accountability, self-reflection, and behavior modification. Beyond just intervention, these programs are a foundation for safer communities and healthier relationships. Men’s Behaviour Change Programs save lives. The Northern Territory would be “Worse Without” Men’s Behaviour Change Programs. Domestic, family, and sexual violence in the Northern Territory is the worst in the country. Without the ongoing work of these vital programs, there would be catastrophically more violence in the NT. Together, we must ensure Men’s Behaviour Change Programs are adequately funded to continue their critical work in the fight against violence. https://lnkd.in/gtF5aH2S
