  • We are EXCITED to announce our 2025 Perth Festival program featuring two monumental exhibitions: ‘Burndud Ground’ by Alice Guiness and ‘Doba Nation’ by Mai Nguyễn-Long 7 February – 17 April 2025 Elder and senior artist Alice Guiness holds a deep connection with the Burndud, an important site and story for the Yindjibarndi people. Brought to life in neon sculpture and immersive media installations, her use of bold colour and patterns embody the rhythms and movement of the women dancing and the men singing in Ceremony. This Perth Festival and Juluwarlu Art Group Commission is part of the Boorloo Contemporary Program in partnership with Wesfarmers Arts.  📸  Alice Guiness, Burndud Ground, 2022, acrylic on canvas, 100 x 80 cm. Courtesy the artist and Juluwarlu Art Group. Mai Nguyễn-Long’s large-scale installation Doba Nation features hand-formed clay sculptures that are arranged by the artist on site in a process akin to live storytelling. Created for Perth Festival 2025, the series responds to post-Vietnam War metal bomb shell casings. Doba Nation acts to reconcile the artist's personal experience of diasporic trauma and invites audiences to interrogate the history of their own identity. @mainguyenlong @michaelreidsydney 📸  Mai Nguyễn-Long, Doba (with handles), 2023, smooth terracotta fried to 1120. What a wonderful turnout for our very first Curtin University Gratitude event yesterday! 💛 It was so lovely to see so many of our valued staff who make up our amazing Give to Change community come together in such a special way to express their gratitude to special colleagues across the university. We are especially grateful to all those who came along and took the time to write a letter to their colleague, bead fidget toys for Curtin Volunteers!, donate essential goods for the Curtin Community Pantry, and help pack Share the Dignity bags, which will make a big difference to women in need from the local community.   Initiated by John Curtin Gallery Administrative Coordinator @Patti Bellety, Share the Dignity is one of many fundraising initiatives running at Curtin each year and is a charity that collects thousands of female hygiene and personal products annually for women in Australia facing homelessness and poverty due to domestic violence. Over just two hours, 472 safe-sex packs were prepared for Pride Month and 75 Bead Caterpillar Fidget Toys were made for Cahoots Org to use for a fundraiser. What an outstanding achievement by all! 👏 These small actions can truly make a significant difference, and we are so thankful to be a part of a community passionate about building a fairer, kinder, and smarter world. 🌏 If you’d like to volunteer to help pack bags or participate in other volunteer activities, please email give@curtin.edu.au.
