Personally, the greatest benefit in working for others (if you haven't figured out how to work for yourself or if that's simply not in the cards) is great leadership. There was nothing more important to me when I left one industry in 2022 and started in this new one in 2023 was to find strong leadership and a healthy corporate culture. If there’s a better panel discussion at IBTTA’s 92nd Annual Meeting & Exhibition in Cleveland than this one, then we’re in for a great few days… ✨ ✨ A stellar panel took on the complex subject of Policy, Workforce and Inclusion in a Changing Landscape, with great moderation by April Rai of COMTO National Office ✴️ It was a coup to get Christopher C. of U.S. Department of Transportation, who said: “This ‘equity’ word is very simple: wherever you live, you should live in a great neighbourhood - and infrastructure is a tool to achieve that.” ✴️ Veronica O. Davis, PE of AtkinsRéalis, author of the brilliant Inclusive Transportation, pointed out: “We can get caught up with ‘doing the equity’; but make sure you as an individual are doing the work to understand someone else’s lived experience.” ✴️ Marcelle Jones from Stantec Consulting Services revealed the company internally uses the term ‘IDE’ (Inclusion, Diversity and Equity) rather than ‘DEI’: “Because it’s not just about diversifying, it’s about making people feel welcome when they come to Stantec.” ✴️ Meanwhile Daveda Bencs, MBA, TSSP revealed that Greater Cleveland RTA’s Positive Impact Program - which aimed to recruit and, crucially, retain bus drivers by mentoring new staff with veteran employees - not only increased retention but also cut absenteeism and improved on-time performance: “It’s such a major game-changer for us!” ✴️ And Michael Bryant of the Civil Rights Division of Texas Department of Transportation, urged people towards R&D - not research and development but ‘rip off and duplicate’: “All of us can look at places which have done good work if we’re able to put the time and energy into it.” Follow ITS International Magazine for more #IBTTACleveland updates Rosa Rountree Joi Taylor Dean Wayne Reed, PMP #diversity #equity #inclusion

🌟 Gratitude and Growth 🌟 March in a 60 second video, has been an incredible whirlwind of travel and getting down to business; with 21 working days packed with opportunities and connections to be had. ✈️ During the last month, I spent 16 of those working days on the road, whether in the car or in-flight, spanning across vibrant cities like Austin, TX, Richmond, VA, Iowa, Washington DC, MD, PA, NJ, and NY. Meeting with over 15 of my customers, including industry giants like Rollins, Inc. and Anticimex; alongside numerous independent businesses, was a testament to the power of networking and collaboration. Time spent support the New Jersey Pest Management Association as well. It was truly enriching to engage in trainings and strategic planning sessions, discussing how The Sentricon System can revolutionize and positively impact the trajectory of our customers' businesses. This month is in a complete wind-down for me, but as I reflect on the past month, I'm filled with gratitude for the meaningful connections made along the way, several new ones, and the invaluable insights gained. Not to mention, the opportunity to catch up with industry friends, peers, and mentors along the way added an extra layer of fulfillment to my journey. Extra shout out for the invite from Women In Pest Control and Bobbie Terry to speak at their annual conference this year too (and YES, I give other talks than just Termite). And just when I thought March couldn't get any busier, April is already shaping up to be another adventure with 14 days already booked on the calendar! 😄 Here's to embracing every opportunity, fostering growth, networking and continuing to make a difference in the lives of our customers and the pest control industry at large.
