Zurich based Opportuna closes a $30 million secondaries fund #Opportuna, an investment firm founded by Alban C., Robin Lauber (from Infinitas Capital), and Christopher L.R. Chuffart, has officially launched with the introduction of its first strategy: a $30 million venture secondaries fund. Based in Zurich, Opportuna aims to capitalize on the growing demand for liquidity in the venture capital market by specializing in direct venture secondaries and late-stage primaries. Backed by Ultra High Net Worth Individuals and Family Offices, the firm's first investment vehicle targets tech and climate tech companies that have found product-market fit but where investors have yet to exit. By providing small liquidity solutions to motivated sellers and founders, Opportuna offers them more time to drive larger outcomes. The fund is set to be fully deployed within five months, with a first fundraising deadline in December. By investing in more mature companies across sectors like cybersecurity, video gaming, semiconductors, #fintech, software, and climate tech, Opportuna seeks to reduce downside risk while accelerating the time to distribution of proceeds. In spite of the record levels of capital raised for private market secondaries, transactions in the venture capital segment have been limited, as bid-ask spreads remain disparate and volatile, with valuations often lacking much fundamental reality of the current environment. Seldom have been executed over the past few years, with Insight Partners being one of the more successful in 2023. Perhaps the market is starting to open up, and I highly admire Shasta Ventures' Managing Partner Jason Pressman as a fund manager and friend, and see this potential process materializing successfully for Shasta Ventures limited partners to accelerate the case for Jason Pressman and Team to subsequently raise their next early-stage venture fund. Current investments include Australia-based start-up Canva, Tonal, Cequence Security, Zuora. Jefferies has been retained to manage the process.
