Your tone of voice... It's the personality behind your brand. It helps you connect with your readers on a deeper level. It's the invisible thread that connects you to your audience. But finding the right tone isn't always easy. Here are some common pitfalls to avoid: 1. Stiffness is Boring: Avoid sounding overly formal or robotic. Your audience wants to connect with a real person, not a corporate robot. Inject some personality, humor, or even a touch of sarcasm. 2. Neglect Your Audience: Know who you're talking to. Understand their interests, values, and communication style. Tailor your tone to resonate with their unique perspective. 3. Inconsistency is Confusing: Maintain a consistent tone across all your communication channels. This helps build trust and recognition. 4. Ignore Feedback at Your Peril: Listen to your audience. Pay attention to their comments and reactions. Adapt your tone based on their feedback to stay relevant and engaging. 5. Let Your Personality Shine: Remeber, people connect with people, not just words. Don't be afraid to let your unique voice shine through. Your writing should reflect your personality, your values, and your perspective. Your tone of voice is a powerful tool. Use it to connect with your audience, authentically.

Ever had someone "punctuation police" your message? Or tell you to dial down your tone? If it bothered you, there’s a reason — trust your gut. Dousing your message in corporate chlorine doesn’t strengthen your brand; it just dilutes it. You may feel pressured to conform under the guise of “professionalism” or a rigid sense of clarity. But here’s the truth: there’s no one-size-fits-all formula when it comes to developing a strategy that truly resonates. It’s different for everyone. Here’s how we think about finding the right balance for authentic, impactful messaging: 🦝 What’s your goal? 🦝 What does your audience need so that you can achieve that with them? 🦝 How does your unique style support the answers to both those questions? Your style — punctuation, emojis, visuals, tone, storytelling choices — should reflect a strategy that's uniquely yours. 𝐓𝐋;𝐃𝐑: Embrace your style with adaptable creativity. Never censor it.

“Will it sound like me?” That’s the #1 question I hear the most from clients. "How can someone be in your head?" "How can they write in your voice?" The truth is… it’s possible. And it’s crucial. Here’s how I match your voice: 1. Brand identity first: Onboarding forms dive deep into your story. 2. Connect on a 1:1 level: We chat. I get to know your personality and goals. 3. Monthly 1:1 sessions: We talk about your industry, clients, and any updates. This gives me an inside look at who you are. I learn your voice and expertise My goal? To create high-value content. If it’s Google-able, it’s not personal enough. Your audience wants to hear what’s in your head, not what’s in a search result. And the best way to nail your tone? Collaboration. That’s why I work with clients who are willing to invest a couple of hours into this process. So I can pull out their stories, opinions, and results and turn them into their content. P.S. If you want your voice but don’t have the time, I’m here to help. DM me "Voice" and let’s get started.

I've decided I hate using word clouds to describe a brand tone of voice. Here's what I now do instead. Word clouds make tone of voice feel like an intangible aura🔮 In reality, you want to be able to - communicate brand values - share brand personality - speak to your audience in their language But staring at a few adjectives on page can make things more... cloudy. You might start googling definitions, synonyms, and endlessly comparing with other brands. And ultimately you're left with fairly generic words that don't spark inspiration. So instead... 👉 agree on a few textbook examples of where the brand tone of voice is done really well to refer back to 👉 think about objectives and what we're actually trying to achieve 👉 watch how your customers say things already and write in their language It feels a bit more practical and also allows it to evolve with you and your customers needs. Interested to get others' feedback on this!

Today’s communication thought: Don’t lower your standards when you communicate for your company or brand. I’ve seen lots of social posts where mid to late career people attempt to appease younger generations with jargon, jive, and what is basically poor use of language. Do you want to project yourself as anything less than excellent, decent and experienced? Your words have power. What you say matters and causes others to form an opinion of you. Choose your words wisely. Appealing to a younger audience doesn’t mean dumbing down your presentation. It’s an opportunity to simplify your message and tone. Remember, always present yourself and your brand with excellence.

Why Your Brand’s Voice Matters More Than Ever 🗣️ 🌐 It’s not just about what you communicate, it’s how you say it. An authentic, consistent voice builds trust, while a mismatched one confuses your audience and makes your message forgettable. Ask yourself: 🔻 If your brand’s voice disappeared today, would your audience even notice? 🤔 🔺 Can someone recognize your tone without seeing your logo? 🔍 Your voice is your strongest differentiator in a noisy marketplace. 🔊 Make it count! What’s one word that defines your brand’s tone? 💬 Share it below, and let’s see how aligned you are with your message!

Are there times you feel like you’re not sounding like you? I get it. Every time I create content, I always read it out loud a few times. If it doesn’t sound like me, I know I need to tweak it until it feels right. We always hear people say, “Stay consistent with your brand voice,” but what does that even mean? How do you actually do it? Let’s break it down in a way that feels real and easy. You’ll soon find that staying true to your voice is simpler than you think. (You can thank me later! 😄) 📌 Start by Defining Your Brand’s Voice How do you want to come across? What feeling do you want your words to create? Picure this- If someone only knew you through your words, how would they describe your personality? That’s the essence of your brand voice 📌 Create Your Own Style Guide Decide on your tone. Are you friendly, laid-back, or more formal? Identify what messages really matter to you and reflect your brand values. Think about the words or phrases that make you, well, you. 📌 Be Consistent Everywhere Make sure that voice comes through, whether you’re replying to comments, answering messages, or dealing with reviews. That’s how people get to know and trust you. Being consistent with your brand voice isn’t just about sounding the same, it’s about genuinely connecting and standing out in your own unique way.
