11 Tools For Content/Copywriters & Marketers
From researching and generating ideas to creating multiple drafts and improving your craft, the work of content/copywriters and marketers is on-going.
As I continue to write hundreds, even thousands of words per week, I tend to come across new tools as I complete client work. I’ve also been lucky, as my network has suggested a number of various useful tools.
I thought I’d return the favor.
Below is an updated list (I wrote an article a few months back) of tools that I often use, as well as some that have been suggested to me, but don’t quite fit into my workflow.
Story Wars, a collaborative writing platform, allows lovers of the written word to connect with others to read, write, and expand on thousands of existing stories - or create their very own.
Wattpad is a community for readers and writers to publish new user-generated stories in different genres, including classics, general fiction, historical fiction, non-fiction, poetry, fanfiction, spiritual, humor, and teen fiction.
Offering an easy way to aggregate your information feeds in one place, Feedly allows you to organize, read, and share the information you need to stay ahead of the next big trend in your industry.
Use BuzzSumo, a social insight platform, to quickly analyze and identify what content is working well in your niche or industry. Also, get content alerts when your brand or topic is mention; find interesting and trending content to curate; discover guest post and interview opportunities; and analyze your competitors top content.
Developing content ideas a challenge? The Hubspot Blog Topic Generator is a great tool, which will generate a week’s worth of custom, interesting ideas to fill your content calendar.
Answer the Public, is a powerful content marketing/consumer insight tool. It combines the suggested searches from Bing and Google, and visualizes them into a search cloud. Organized in categories such as what, where and why, the search clouds provide an overview of the questions and queries people are typing into search engines from their various devices.
Use Grammarly to create polished, grammar-free copy. It goes beyond detecting spelling mistakes….Grammarly identifies correctly spelled words that are used in the wrong context, in addition to tackling complex grammatical mistakes.
Headline Analyzer - CoSchedule
Trying to craft the perfect headline? Whether for social messages, emails, articles, or blog posts, CoSchedule’s Headline Analyzer, has you covered. It offers a comprehensive breakdown analysis of your headline, including an overall score (out of 100), suggestions for improvement, and tracks your headline version history. The site also has a great resource library and an informative blog.
Social Message Optimizer - CoSchedule
Optimize your social messages with CoSchedule’s Social Message Optimizer. Simply input your message to receive your in-depth overview, including sentiment score, suggestions on when to post, and what to include (hashtags/emojis).
This handy tool not only gives you word count, which can be important, depending on the platform and specific type of copy you’re creating, it detects grammar mistakes and plagiarism, as well as helps you to improve word choice and writing style. Word Counter also gives you details such as reading level, reading and speaking time, and more.
You know, when a word is just on the tip-of-your-tongue, but you just can’t recall it? This is where Reverse Dictionary comes in. Just type in the word or phrase that’s closest to mind, hit search, and voilà, the word you’re looking for will likely be staring you in the face.
For those in my network and beyond, I hope this list is useful to your workflow. Some may ring familiar, but my hope is to introduce one or two unfamiliar tools and/or expose those who may not be using any tools at all, to new resources.
If you see fit, please feel free to share this with your connections. It’s all about helping each other grow.
Do you use any of the tools listed? Do you have any to add?

6yNot a fan of tools, to be honest, as I find them distracting. The only tools I use from this list are CoSchedule's headline anyzer and Answer the public because they provide the info I cannot possibly get somewhere else but truly need (not to just satisfy my curiosity but to make my content better). All my other writing needs are satisfied by a text editor, Excel and my head :)
