APR - Actuarial Solutions’ Post

Today marks the end of National Inclusion Week, a week dedicated to celebrating inclusion and taking action to create an inclusive workplace for all. Creating an inclusive workplace that regularly recognises our staff’s contributions is an important aspect of APR’s values. Back in June, APR celebrated LGBTQ+ Pride, with several excellent events taking place throughout the month. Our book club, Actureads, held a very special podcast session for Pride. We discussed the QueerAF podcast with most of the conversation focusing on the two episodes “Why does Disney still hide it’s gay characters?” and “The life of a trans activist”. We had an interesting and far-reaching discussion on the importance of representation, activism and what a company’s duties are in making sure LGBT+ people get accurate recognition and representation. In London, our staff attended a Queer Comedy event in Hackney where, despite an impressive commitment to keeping a low profile, we were referred to as “the Real Housewives of Insurance” by one comedian. In Dublin, we attended a Drag Bingo event (with plenty of drinks but no wins!), and our Edinburgh office were treated to a night of fun at a Ball Pit bar (yes, we’d never heard of that either!). It is vital to recognise the importance of creating an inclusive workplace and more information on National Inclusion Week can be found here: https://lnkd.in/deBDkkz #NationalInclusionWeek #Diversity #Inclusion
