Here's to a Thriving New Year!!! I will make sure to keep this post as brief as possible. As we turn the page on the calendar, I wanted to reflect on many of Thrive Pavilion's accomplishments in 2024. First, a few numbers. The community grew from about 700 members at the beginning of the year and ended close to 2000 (1946, to be exact). We had over 400 scheduled events, countless club meetings, meetups, and rehearsals. Our Messenger chats are constantly active. Our donations have increased seven times over the past year, which helps administer the community and spread the word about Thrive to the aging population and the organizations that serve it. When we started Thrive Pavilion in 2022, we had the idea of building a community where older adults could build friendships, socialize, and engage in meaningful activities in the virtual world when it is difficult to do so in the physical world. The "what" was clear back then, but the "how" was vague. Given the almost three years we've been at it, the "how" is more apparent. We now know that Thrive Pavilion is member-led, and it would not exist without the continued efforts of all involved. The overwhelming number of the events, chats, meetups, etc., mentioned above were generated and led by Thrive members. The community would not exist and grow without the generous giving of your time, skills, interests, and unique talents. I look forward to seeing how the community grows and supports itself this year.
Thrive Pavilion
Civic and Social Organizations
A social VR community that helps older adults overcome the negative impacts of social isolation.
About us
Thrive is a Social VR community helping older adults overcome the negative impacts of social isolation. Our primary mission is to arrange, promote, and conduct Social VR events where older adults engage with one another during physical, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual activities. Thrive also sponsors, hosts, and participates in real-life and activities that promote the use of Social VR to improve personal wellness and overcome the negative impacts of social isolation in older adults. We also advocate for older adults with Social VR Creators so they can design products that help overcome the negative impacts of social isolation.

As a nonprofit organization with little money, it would be impossible for us to have an Emmy award-winning production company, Only Today, tell the story about how the Thrive Pavilion helps isolated aging adults socialize, find friendships, and find purpose. We are forever grateful to the people and Meta who made this video possible, including Dan Nieves and Christina A.
I help aging adults combat social isolation, have fun, find joy, and build friendships via a member-driven social virtual reality community
There are so many marvelous organizations working in the #AgeTech space, but one of my observations is that most view aging adults as patients needing care and protection. Most fail to recognize that aging adults desire fulfilling lives full of human connection, joy, and purpose. Often, entrepreneurs enter #ageTech after a personal event with an older loved one who needs care, so their view of aging is one of fragility and loss of independence. When you think about it, it makes sense. Many moms and doctors become entrepreneurs based on their experiences and create products and companies to help other parents and physicians. Not many entrepreneurs have experienced aging to understand that older adults desire fulfilling lives, too. That's not to say medical and physical conditions are not important, but as Charlotte Yeh pointed out at Mary Furlong's #boomerventuresummit, sponsored by the AgeTech Collaborative™ from AARP, 60% of aging adults over the age of 65 do not have any serious medical, physical, or safety issues. Are we missing the opportunity to serve all aging adults as a group? Are we #ageist in our views of aging? One could say, "That's where the money is," but perhaps we're overlooking the fundamental desires of aging adults. During Meta's Annual Shareholder Meeting in May, it was refreshing that they chose to portray aging adults as vibrant and active to their major investors. Something their family of products does quite well. If you're involved in the AgeTech space, it's worth spending two minutes watching the Community Voices Story at 6 minutes and 10 seconds in the webcast. Here's the link: https://lnkd.in/eWfa8rYr We are fortunate to have people like Christina A., Dan Nieves, Dale Raphael Goldberg, and the folks at Only Today tell a great story about how technology aging adults already have access to, such as #facebook, #messenger, #metaquest, ForeVR Games, FitXR and #horizonworlds enable aging adults to live fulfilling lives. #techforgood #socialisolation #loneliness #socialconnection #seniorcare #seniorhealth #seniorwellbeing #aginginplace #inhomecare #headsinheadsets

Thank you, National Aging In Place Council (NAIPC), for inviting the Thrive Pavilion to your June Monthly meeting. I'm sorry you could not join the Thrive Community, as they played Jeopardy during the webinar. Here's a brief video of the community having fun playing together.

We had a blast hosting the National Aging In Place Council (NAIPC) at the Thrive Pavilion today. I'm sorry that technical difficulties prevented the NAIPC from joining our Jeopardy event, but the Thrive Members went on to play since they were together. Here's a link to one-minute clip of the fun they were having https://lnkd.in/e4xh-Xt3

At the Thrive Pavilion, we aim to address social isolation among aging adults living at home by fostering human connections and friendships through our member-driven virtual reality community. Our programs and activities are FREE to our members, which allows us to reach as many aging adults as possible using inexpensive, consumer-available Meta Quest devices. As a nonprofit organization, Thrive is supported by the generous donations of individuals, philanthropic grants, and corporate supporters who share our concern for the negative health impacts of #socialisolation on aging adults. We are honored to be joined during our summer fundraiser by three premier independent #virtualreality developers: Mighty Coconut, ForeVR Games, and TRIPP, Inc. As a way of showing our gratitude for individual donations to Thrive during our summer fundraiser, you will receive copies of, or subscriptions to, these great VR experiences. To support Thrive's mission, please make your donation at https://lnkd.in/gZ5N_yX8. I want to thank the many people who made this fundraiser possible, including David Wyatt, Katie Binns, Lauren K., Josh H., Nanea Reeves, and Jeremy Nickel #techforgood #loneliness #socialconnection #agetech #seniorcare #seniorhealth #seniorwellbeing #aginginplace #inhomecare #headsinheadsets
