#Empowering Women Globally with Miss Jess VR 🌍 Introducing Miss Jess VR: Bridging Cultures for Women's Mental Health I'm thrilled to share an exciting new initiative that aims to revolutionize mental health support for women around the world. The Miss Jess VR project is a groundbreaking effort to establish self-sustaining women's centers equipped with cutting-edge VR technology. These centers will provide culturally inclusive mental health support, bridging the gap between Western and Oriental perspectives. #Our Mission The Miss Jess VR project is dedicated to addressing the unique mental health needs of women from diverse cultural backgrounds. By leveraging VR technology, we aim to create immersive experiences that promote understanding, empathy, and mental well-being. #Global Reach Our journey begins with establishing VR centers in key regions where women face specific mental health challenges: - Sub-Saharan Africa: Focusing on maternal mental health to support new mothers experiencing postpartum depression and anxiety. - South Asia: Addressing depression and anxiety in a region where cultural stigma often prevents women from seeking help. - Middle East: Providing trauma and PTSD support for women affected by conflict and displacement. - Latin America: Offering resources for survivors of gender-based violence, including therapy sessions and support groups. - Eastern Europe: Tackling depression and substance abuse in areas with economic instability and high rates of domestic violence. - Rural United States: Bridging the gap in mental health services for women in remote areas. - East Asia: Reducing work-related stress and anxiety in high-pressure environments. - Indigenous Communities: Healing intergenerational trauma and substance abuse with culturally sensitive support. #Why This Matters Mental health is a critical aspect of overall well-being, yet many women around the world lack access to the resources they need. By creating self-sustaining VR centers, we can provide ongoing support and foster cultural understanding, empowering women to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives. #Join Us on This Journey We are excited to collaborate with international organizations, local communities, and passionate individuals to bring this vision to life. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of women globally. Stay tuned for updates as we embark on this transformative journey with Miss Jess VR. It was great to speak on LBC Global tonight about how social media companies are still failing to keep young users safe following the #EU ‘s decision to investigate Meta for child safety and mental health concerns, and what needs to be done to address harmful content at the root. Fundamentally, the algorithms that are shaping our digital world and determining what we see are not fit for purpose. A shocking survey by Ofcom this year found that every British child they spoke to had seen harmful content online, with this starting as young as primary age. We need a rebuilding of our digital world with user safety and wellbeing at the core, not as an afterthought. Bereaved families should not be the ones to have to push for this change, social media platforms are products like any other and they urgently need to be made safe for all. #bigtech #meta #socialmedia #safetybydesign

One in 15 people aged 50 and over are often lonely, rising to one in three for those who are widowed, and one in four for those in poor health. Loneliness and social isolation can be caused by an inability to maintain or develop social relationships, often due to mobility or health issues. This can increase mortality by 26% and more than double the risk of developing dementia. Researchers from our Advanced Wellbeing Research Centre (AWRC) and Centre for Loneliness Studies are using virtual reality to combat loneliness in older people and provide access to rich social interactions that they may find difficult in real-world settings. Using VR technology, Planet Wellbeing allows users to dance, play and connect with others from the comfort of their own home, breaking down the barriers of communication and supporting improved mental wellbeing. Virtual reality is starting to be used in many different settings. Games, learning, healthcare, tourism and now possibly a positive experience for older people. Seventeen seniors centers in the United States just completed a study with Stanford University and the use of virtual reality. In the study, seniors would spend short bursts of time in virtual reality. The results were quite astounding. After using virtual reality, the seniors reported; ✔ 79.2% felt more positive ✔ 57.9% felt less isolated ✔ 83% said it was beneficial to their relationship with caregivers Personally, I think virtual reality has some amazing future potential for many aspects of our lives at any age. Especially once the googles and set up become easy for anyone to establish. It's great to know that virtual reality may also help to eliminate feelings of isolation and help older people to feel more positive. That is what we hope all technology is able to do. Make our lives better. But like all technology, we have to remember it is still technology. It is not meant to replace human interactions and connections. So just like we shouldn't place our children in front of a television or online games all day, virtual reality is no different and we need to remember this for anyone at any age. Human contact should always reign supreme. #babyboomers #boomers #retirement #aging #longevity #technology #virtualreality #commentary https://lnkd.in/eN_hyayW
