As we continue to celebrate Rent the Runway’s 15th Anniversary, we want to highlight the brilliant team that has made this milestone possible. Meet Erica Rothen, an RTR rockstar who has been with us for 13 years! She began her career here as a Customer Insights Associate, and now fills our closet with new trends as the Director of Buying. Thank you, Erica! For Erica, joining a small start up in fashion was a departure from her peers. While many of her friends went into finance, Erica took a risk by joining a scrappy team that wanted to make fashion accessible for all. By beginning her career in Customer Insights, Erica spent her days connecting with customers and deepening her understanding of their perspective. Going above and beyond became her habit. She remembers a customer once wanted wanted a specific blue gown for a rehearsal dinner, but it was out of stock. She called the designer personally and was able to buy an extra garment directly and get it to the customer just in time. Erica credits her first manager at Rent the Runway as being one of her greatest mentors. She was pushed to see patterns between multiple customer experiences and to use data to design solutions to improve the product. Erica says that has stuck with her. “Everything I do is about the customer. If anything is confusing, I can hear the customers’ voices calling our team.” A major accomplishment of Erica’s career was adding size and fit reviews on Rent the Runway. This popular feature allows women to share specifics of how styles fit them, and helps other members choose styles based on their style and fit preferences. It's now an RTR staple! As Rent the Runway grew to include everyday wear, Erica’s role grew along with it. Erica got to tackle entirely new problems, moving into a Buying role for Accessories and building out the strategy. A recurring favorite part of the job is the quarterly Fashion Style Out meeting, where the leadership reviews all styles that will go live (we can confirm that this is an extremely fun meeting)! Outside of work Erica is a movie-buff, proud dog parent to Gus, and outdoor adventurer. She loves exploring the trails in CT and getting outside whenever she can. We are proud to be where Erica has grown and built her career, and look forward to many more years of working together. Thank you for all that you do and the passion you bring to RTR!

🌟 This week we are thrilled to be celebrating Rent the Runway’s 15 year Anniversary! 🌟 When we unlocked our closet 15 years ago, our goal was to empower and enable women to have it all: in our Core Values we call it “everyone deserves a Cinderella Experience.” Over the past 15 years our customers have expanded this mission and shown us how RTR has become an important part of almost every aspect of their lives. Rent the Runway has become so much more than just one moment. It’s the first step to evolving personal style, the secret weapon for wedding season, or the boost of confidence before walking out the door each morning. 𝘏𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 a designer wardrobe no longer meant you had to 𝘰𝘸𝘯 it. And that’s where the fun began. In the words of our CEO and Cofounder, Jennifer Hyman, “Building Rent the Runway has been the greatest adventure of my life. I am a bigger believer in our mission and our vision today than I ever have been and that is because of all our team has already done to change this industry forever.” We are celebrating our anniversary by launching the 𝘖𝘸𝘯 𝘕𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘏𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘌𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 campaign, highlighting the ways that RTR expands your access to fashion 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘦 decreasing your clothing waste and consumption. So we've called on our community—because nobody models the true spirit of RTR better than our members!—to share what Rent the Runway means to them. From engagements to promotions to birthdays under the shimmering lights of the Eiffel Tower, we feel privileged to see (and style) you through it all. Thank you to our community!

#Shoptalk was a resounding success last week! It was an honor to speak from the main stage on what 15 years of Rent the Runway means to us and where we are going next!
As we approach our anniversary next month, I’ve been reflecting on 15 years of lessons from building and leading Rent The Runway. Ironically, building RTR didn’t come from my desire to build a fashion business. It came from my deep passion for building a brand that could enable women to have it all. And it’s this mission that has sustained and motivated me through the rocky road of entrepreneurship. Looking back, I am floored that I’ve been able to build a movement, a company, a marriage, a family and a community at the same time. And I say this because, if I can do it, you can do it. Thank you to #Shoptalk for allowing me to kick off last week on its first ever female mainstage. Some lessons: Trust your gut, always: - There was no data in 2009 that ever could have predicted that just 15 years later MILLIONS of women would be renting clothes every year. In 2009, women didn’t rent clothing. Designers didn’t participate in the secondhand economy. But, I knew that rental would be a mainstream behavior. How? Because I trusted my gut. As RTR matured and reams of data became available, I felt increasing pressure to ignore my gut intuition and to only use the data to drive RTR’s strategic roadmap. I can tell you that this has been a mistake. When your gut and the data are at odds, listen to your gut. Have confidence that when you are truly innovating something new, there is no historical data that will give you the answer. You have to trust yourself. Re-hire Yourself - Every few years I force myself to approach my role at Rent the Runway as if I am a new CEO and coming into the company for the first time. New executives make changes. The benefit of running RTR for 15 years is that it's in my bones: I know every metric, every debate we’ve ever had inside and out. I can ensure we are staying true to our vision. The risk when you’ve been doing something for as long as I have, you may stop asking critical questions: Why do we do things this way? Why can’t we fix this broken experience? I'm approaching this year like I'm new here. It’s resulted in the most ambitious growth and innovation plan that we’ve had in years. By the end of our 15th year of business we hope to have introduced to our customers, and the world, an entirely new Rent the Runway that has even more meaning and resonance. Pace is the only thing that matters - no matter how smart you think you are, your ideas are going to be wrong over 50% of the time. Therefore, the only thing that matters is speed to launch. Our pace at Rent the Runway has always been fastest when we’ve empowered cross-functional teams around simple financial goals, enabled them to develop the roadmap, and implored them to launch something weekly. Typically, as an organization gets larger it stops operating in an agile manner. One of my goals for myself in 2024 has been to strip out the processes, meetings and even metrics within the company that don’t add value and do everything in my power to increase speed to launch.

PSA from the Recruiting Team at Rent the Runway. Many cybercriminals today are using fraudulent job posts and job offers as a way of accessing personal information. To keep yourself safe from scammers, we have a few helpful recommendations: Beware fraudulent Job Posts! All official Rent the Runway jobs are posted to our careers site. If you are viewing a job post that isn't listed on our job board (https://lnkd.in/eKJtvNUS), or you are linked to a job posting site with a different URL, these could be signs that the posts are a scam. 🚩 Lookout for Fake Recruiters! When interacting with a Rent the Runway recruiter, make sure this individual has an official "@renttherunway.com" email address. We do not use any derivatives of this address, such as "@rentherunwayxyz.com." If someone is claiming to contact you on behalf of Rent the Runway using a non-Rent the Runway email address, this is a red flag! 🚩 Use Linkedin's Verification Tools! Internal Rent the Runway recruiters will have a verification badge on their Linkedin Accounts confirming that they have aligned their Linkedin accounts with an "@renttherunway" email account. If you are contacted by someone who says they work as a recruiter for Rent the Runway, who either doesn't have a Linkedin Account, or doesn't have a Linkedin verification for Rent the Runway, this is a red flag! 🚩

This Women’s History Month, our CEO & Co-Founder, Jennifer Hyman, is thinking about the change we need to see to get more women to the top in the corporate world. For decades women have had the professional qualifications for upward mobility in their careers, but progress has been too slow. Jenn believes that a key accelerant for women in the workplace is a vocal community of advocates that publicly champion our successes and accomplishments. However, studies show that women are less likely to self-promote their professional accolades than their male counterparts — and because they talk less about themselves, their accomplishments become less visible. Rent the Runway is looking to change the conversation by encouraging women to show off — so that their professional victories become more seen and talked about. It’s this very self-promotion that will enable women to more quickly ascend the corporate ladder. Today, we are hoping to kick off a virtuous cycle of lifting women up through public recognition on LinkedIn. During March, Rent the Runway is gifting $1M in free one month subscriptions of our most popular 10-item plan to women who have recently experienced a recent professional accomplishment that deserves celebrating. You can either self-nominate by commenting on Jenn’s post and sharing an accolade you've recently achieved at work… or you can nominate a friend who’s recently experienced a professional win and tell her story, too. #RTRShowOff #IWD2024
In honor of Women’s History Month #IWD2024, Rent The Runway is gifting $1M in subscriptions to women who have recently experienced something awesome in their careers – a promotion, new job, successful launch, etc. The process is easy: self-nominate by commenting on this post and sharing a professional milestone you've recently achieved or nominate a friend and tell her story. One month ago, I had my third baby. I received more positive affirmation and congratulatory sentiment when I shared my son’s birth than I did when I IPO’ed Rent the Runway in 2021. While I appreciate the love of my community, it was a lot easier to give birth than to become the 30th female founder/CEO to take a company public. But, this all makes sense within the context of our culture. We celebrate women more for personal accomplishments than for professional ones. And, as a result, women often feel more comfortable sharing their personal milestones over their professional ones. Sharing an engagement story is the lifeblood of the group chat whereas sharing a big launch at work might feel anything from strange to showing off. As a little girl, there is almost nothing worse than being called a showoff. For girls, bragging is the quickest way to lose friends and become an object of scorn. It’s in the water: be humble, do great things but wait for someone else to recognize them. I was called a showoff as a kid and it stung, but what I remember most is that this insult was almost only used by girls for other girls. Why this matters is that fast forward to the world of work and promoting women’s accomplishments is critical to our continued workplace advancement. Historical performance is a prerequisite – but as you get more senior in an organization, the more you need a community of people singing your praises to get to the next level. Think of this as a personal net promoter score: the more people willing to promote you loudly, the quicker you’ll rise. I believe that if becoming a C-level executive was based on performance alone, closer to 50% of the C-suite would be female. But because it is also based on how we storytell about ourselves and others, women are but a fraction of our leadership. The more that public celebration of women’s professional accomplishments becomes normalized, the more opportunities we’ll receive. RTR will also be committing $1M in GMV* to Dress for Success Worldwide to ensure that even more women have the attire and confidence they need to excel professionally. How you can nominate a woman (or yourself!) for one free month of RTR’s 10-item plan: - Tag a deserving woman’s name on this post, mention your or her recent accomplishment, and use the hashtag #RTRShowOff - This offer is for new customers only, who are based in the US Valid thru 3/31 or while supplies last, whichever is sooner. US, 18+, new subscribers only. 1 per person. Subscription auto-renews unless canceled/paused. Terms apply: bit.ly/RTRShowOff *Based on MSRP
