In our latest episode, Tonya Schulte a construction accounting legend who founded The Profit Constructors, gives an incredible overview of how she helps her clients figure out what their cash flow score is and how to improve it. Key strategies she shared: • Simplify metrics like Days Sales Outstanding (DSO) • Streamline cost codes and workflows • Automate processes to save time and reduce errors • Create team synergy with clear roles and shared goals Her 𝟵𝟬-𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹 transforms chaotic systems into scalable, repeatable processes that improve cash flow, operational clarity, and team alignment. Dominick Thompson, owner of Watershed Builders, has been able to build a successful construction business while staying lean. We sat down with Dominick on latest episode of Builders, Budgets, and Beers to discuss how he did it. Here are three lessons: 1️⃣ 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞. The right software should meet your needs, be intuitive to learn, and work smoothly with your team and trade partners. Ask yourself: Does this tool simplify your workflows? Does it connect the back office with the field without creating extra steps? The best tools are powerful yet easy to use, helping you and everyone you work with get the job done efficiently. Create a win-win scenario to get buy-in from everyone. 2️⃣ 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐢𝐬 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥-𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐥𝐞. By tracking costs as they happen, Dominick avoids the dreaded “bank for the customer” trap, where builders front costs without timely revenue coming in. Real-time bookkeeping ensures clarity and keeps projects running smoothly. 3️⃣ 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 = 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞. When you can see your financials in real time, decision-making becomes a lot easier. Whether you’re approving bills or planning your next move, staying on top of the numbers lets you focus on what really matters: growing your business. Dominick’s story is proof that with the right tools and systems, you can keep finances and operations simple while continuing to grow. Check out the full episode and blog: https://lnkd.in/eFAbipx2

In May, Insight Partners discussed an impending shift in enterprise architectures toward AI Agents. In the six months since that article came out, we have monitored actual agentic deployments across companies, noticing the differences in use case complexity, the tradeoff of buying function-specific Agents versus building custom agentic workflows, and the variety in how value is measured and attributed. We spoke to builders, enterprises, end users, and researchers to get a deeper understanding of where Agents stand today, including: 🤖 The state of the AI Agent ecosystem 📊 An updated AI agents market map 💡 Agent end-user deployments: Examples, challenges, and considerations 💸 The economics of agents 💻 Considerations for enterprises 🔨 Considerations for builders Written by Managing Director Praveen Akkiraju, VP Sophie Beshar, Director Ash Tutika, Hunter Korn, Ethan DeSilva, and Christopher Gyra, see how the AI Agents space has already evolved: https://lnkd.in/e48KNgeM

Excited to see Adaptive recognized by Primary Venture Partners as one of top fintech startups out of NYC. I thought this quote from Primary was spot on, and it's why we're laser focused on solving problems specifically for construction. "Financial operations in many industries, from biotech to even banking, are so vertical-specific that they need vertically focused software that is tailor-made to fit their needs." We're hiring across the board. Feel free to shoot me a DM if you're interested in learning more! Thanks Emily Man and Rachel Pavey for the recognition and shout out to the other vertical specific platforms on the list Auxilius, Maybern, Affiniti, and fellow David Haber portfolio company ModernFi.

  • Paul Sanneman, founder of Contractor Staffing Source, has seen it all, from the days of pagers to the rise of AI-driven recruiting. In our latest podcast episode, Paul shares some tough love about where most builders are falling short in recruiting and how the industry is changing. Here’s what you need to know: 🔨 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐝𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝𝐧’𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 Paul recalls the days when contractors scoffed at email and websites—yet here we are, relying on project management software and, more recently, AI. His message? Embrace AI as the powerful tool it is. Think of it as the backhoe replacing your shovel. It’s not just a buzzword; it’s here to transform the industry, including recruiting. 👷♂️ 𝐒𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐢𝐤𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞 One of Paul’s biggest insights is that recruiting needs to be ongoing, not a fire drill when you’re desperate for a hire. Just as you wouldn’t market your business only when you’re out of leads, don’t wait until you’re understaffed to look into the talent pool. Build a pipeline of talent consistently to avoid costly, rushed hires. 💰 𝐇𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐲 Some builders are worried about the cost of hiring. Consider the alternative: the hidden costs of a bad hire such as lost productivity, project delays, and even legal risks can easily add up to $50,000 or more based on Paul’s observations. Investing in great people isn’t expensive; it’s essential. 📉 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 Relying solely on word-of-mouth recruiting and sticking to manual processes (hello, spreadsheets!) are mistakes Paul sees all too often. His advice is to embrace modern technology like AI to save time, reduce errors, and scale operations. The cost of staying stuck in your old ways is far greater than buying new technology. https://lnkd.in/gXjkDHXf
