  • Game-changing solutions to empower private fund CFOs - that's what we're building at Maybern. But don’t just take our word for it. Honored to have Mike W. from Primary Venture Partners share a CFO’s POV on why the Maybern platform is the future for private funds. Thanks for the shoutout and for being on this journey with us, Mike, Emily Man, and the Primary team!

Most CFOs are skeptical about new technology—there are many more promised solutions than actual ones. But I was truly impressed with what Ross Mechanic and Ashwin Raghu from Maybern demoed for me when Emily Man invested: Today the waterfall is typically done in excel, is error-prone, and often resides with the fund administrator. Funds regularly resort to shadow accounting to review and audit the output that the fund admin provides—not a very efficient process. It also positions fund teams as reactive, bogging them down in process. Maybern instead offers transparency with the ability to see how the waterfall works step-by-step. It is a game changer for all CFOs who spend countless hours doing the work their fund admin should be doing, putting them back into the driver’s seat and freeing up time to focus on strategic initiatives. I hope that waterfall calculations are just the beginning; the company is eyeing real-time visibility on key fund metrics, standardized reporting, and scenario modeling. Maybern’s focus on handling all this complexity positions it well to shake up the industry.

There is a great piece on Forbes.com about Camber Creek portfolio company Maybern. It captures a lot of the promise Camber Creek sees in Maybern and the challenges the company is tackling. For example: • There are $15 trillion worth of investment in private funds doing intricate calculations in Excel. The market is enormous. • Errors can be costly and lead to lawsuits or even penalties from regulators. • Cutting through this complexity is not easy. One day, we’ll look back on archaic fund accounting processes and shake our heads at how far we've come. It’ll be because of Ross Mechanic, Aswhin Raghu, and their team. https://lnkd.in/e7P-RT-m

"Sitting beneath the $15 trillion that global investors have sunk into private capital...is a mind numbing accounting problem...creating the need for highly complex, custom calculations to figure out the investment firms’ management fees and share of profits," Jeff Kauflin, Forbes. When $15 trillion of private capital relies on Excel spreadsheets, something needs to change. We're honored to be featured in Forbes, talking about the growing pains in private market fund operations as fund size and complexity increases. Despite the private capital market doubling in the past five years, software to support fund operations remains seriously behind. Regardless of whether a fund leverages internal resources or an external fund admin, Maybern is tackling this head-on by automating complex calculations, enhancing performance reporting, and freeing up fund finance team time to focus on more strategic decisions and investor analyses.  Read how we're empowering the office of the modern fund CFO:

  • Last month, Maybern hosted our first NextGen CFO dinner, convening rising leaders who are shaping the future of private market finance. In an intimate setting, these emerging CFOs shared insights and tackled common challenges facing our industry. There were three key themes on everyone’s minds: 1/ Private markets still run on complex webs of spreadsheets, creating operational friction that holds teams back from their full potential. 2/ Tomorrow's success demands strategic tech investments today – staying competitive means embracing digital transformation. 3/ Beyond just selecting the right tools, meaningful change requires thoughtful implementation that brings the whole team along. This was just the beginning. We're energized to continue fostering these connections and partnering with forward-thinking CFOs to modernize private market operations.
