2024 has been a very busy year for the Neate & Pugh team and we’re super grateful for all the new opportunities and clients we’ve worked with this year. Here’s a whistle-stop tour of what we’ve been up to… ★ We started the year off with a bang moving into our lovely new office in the centre of Birmingham. ★ Every other month we’ve held our ladies networking lunch featuring some fabulous speakers (more of those to come in 2025) ★ In March we spoke at the annual Health & Wellbeing @ Work Show in Birmingham ★ In May we attended the Midlands Business Network Expo in Wolverhampton. ★ In September Beth learned she had passed stage 1 of Solicitors Qualifying Exams ★ In October we had a big party to celebrate 10 years in business. ★ In November we took the team on tour to exhibit at The Business Show in London. Across the year we’ve welcomed many new clients and supported our existing ones. We’ve also had a lot of laughs along the way and that’s down to our amazing team and all who support us. We’d like to thank them for all their hard work! Here’s to an even bigger and better 2025 🙌

Christmas parties are on the horizon but what does the new legislation designed to prevent sexual harassment mean for these social gatherings? The Worker Protection (Amendment of Equality Act 2010) Act came into force on 26 October and puts a duty on employers to protect their employees from sexual harassment in the workplace. With work parties being considered an extension of the workplace, employers can now be held accountable for what happens at them. Here are some pointers on how to comply with the new law and avoid anyone’s behaviour spoiling the party spirit… 🚨Remind employees of your expectations for behaviour at work events and your zero-tolerance approach to harassment of any kind. 🚨Either update or put in place a policy dealing with sexual harassment and ensure this is communicated to employees. 🚨Carry out risk assessments ahead of events to comply with the new preventative duty. 🚨Train your managers on all aspects of the new law, including how to assess risks and taking reasonable steps to prevent them. 🚨Be mindful that the new law also includes sexual harassment by third parties attending events. 🚨Remember that alcohol lowers inhibitions and serve it responsibly at parties. Having the right supporting documentation in place is essential to comply with the new law, and providing written rather than just verbal guidance ensures that everyone is crystal clear on their responsibilities. Do you need some support ahead of your Christmas party? Our team can advise on updates to existing employee handbooks or policies, or help you create a brand new policy quickly. Chat with one of them today on a FREE 30-minute consultation call. 📲 Ann-Marie Pugh 07899 936239 📲 Emma Neate 07834 413249 📲 Beth Hodgetts MCIPD 07971 452295

As we get more details on how the Employment Rights Bill is shaping up we wanted to zoom in on some of the key areas that we know are causing concern for employers. First up 👉 the day one right to claim unfair dismissal. Removing the existing qualifying period of two years and a greater focus on the use of probationary periods will be a huge change for employers, but you’ll have until at least until Autumn 2026 to prepare so don’t panic just yet! Here’s what to start thinking about in the meantime… DOCUMENTATION POLICY & PROCESS UPDATES ✔️Changes needed to existing contract paperwork ✔️Updates to your new starter pack ✔️Review of induction processes ✔️Review of disciplinary and grievances processes ✔️ In depth review of your probationary process 👇 👇 👇 👇 👇 👇 👇 👇 👇 PROBATIONARY PERIODS ❓What impact a statutory term of 9 months might have ❓Your specific terms of probation ❓Your measures of success or failure in probation ❓How you will monitor and document performance during probation ❓How many reviews you need to carry out during probation ❓Training and support for new employees during probation ❓How you deal with any issues during probation ❓Training for your managers on the new probation process As always, our best practice advice would be to ensure thorough documentation and consistent process throughout all parts of the probationary period – even before the new legislation comes into force. This ensures that you and any new employees are really clear on what’s expected and the potential outcomes. We offer 30-minute consultation calls for free so we can understand your needs and you get a clear idea of how we could help. So if you’d like tailored advice and recommendations on the above for your organisation give our friendly team a shout 📣 📲 Ann-Marie Pugh 07899 936239 📲 Emma Neate 07834 413249 📲 Beth Hodgetts 07971 452295

In this short talk, I want to share my insights with you for leading ourselves through change - based on my own experiences from a recent, challenging family situation whilst pulling on my 30+ years’ experience of developing leaders. I believe that we can all benefit from having a leadership mindset, beyond the professional role we may or may not have; leading, beyond a title, to create our best life.” Sally Dhillon is a leadership coach and founder of Nudge Forward.
