The TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS has achieved Abbott World Marathon Majors status thanks to a number of major stakeholders, several of whom were present at a historic press call last Monday morning, at the iconic Sydney Opera House. We would like to thank the Minister for Jobs and Tourism, The Hon. John Graham, and Destination NSW, for their continued support as our major strategic stakeholder, working with us every step of the way towards the Majors finish line, putting the TCS Sydney Marathon alongside the six greatest marathon events in the world. We'd like to extend a huge thank you to the NSW Government, and NSW Premier Chris Minns for speaking to the media last Monday morning, and showing great support for our Candidacy journey including being part of our pre-event media call in 2023. We also would like to acknowledge the owners of the event, Athletics Australia, and their President, Jane Flemming OAM OLY GAICD, as well as our title partner Tata Consultancy Services (represented by Vikram Singh at the call), and our presenting partner ASICS Oceania (represented by Mark Brunton at the call, and professional athletes Isobel Batt-Doyle OLY and Andy Buchanan), who have shown fantastic support of the event, and believed in our dream just as much as we did. Welcome to our newest full-time Team Member, Nick Youngquest! We are thrilled to announce that Nick Youngquest has officially joined the Pont3 team as our “Community & Partnerships Manager”. Nick has been a familiar face to many of us since February 2023, when he first came onboard as an event ambassador for the TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS. His focus was on driving participation and helping us achieve the 15,000 marathon finisher mark, a key milestone in our goals. Together with Ben Lucas, Nick launched the TCS Sydney Marathon Run Club (SMRC), a community hub where runners of all levels came together to learn, connect, and train for their first— or next —marathon. The SMRC has become a vital part of our business, opening up incredible opportunities across marketing, commercial, and community initiatives. Nick's passion and dedication have been truly inspiring. He has spent countless hours engaging with runners, hearing their stories, and understanding what drives them. More recently, he has developed a strategic vision to use the TCS Sydney Marathon as a platform to create even greater impact within the communities we serve. In his new role, Nick will be leading the charge to bring this vision to life, working closely with both the Pont3 team and our sponsors/partners. 20,272 Marathon Finishers. One dream potentially realised very shortly. Sunday 15th September was an incredible day for running in Australia, and we are extremely honoured to be the event team behind it, but there are so many organisations and people to thank for making the 2024 TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS what it was. Destination NSW and the NSW Government have been instrumental to our success during our Candidacy period, which began in 2022, and as our Major Strategic Partner, have been with us every step of the way as we hopefully realise our dream of becoming the seventh of Abbott World Marathon Major. Our new title partner, Tata Consultancy Services, have been brilliant to have by our side since our huge announcement in July, along with our long-standing presenting partner, ASICS. A big thank you to all of our valued partners for being part of this incredible journey. The team at Abbott World Marathon Majors were also amazing to work with in delivering the Abbott World Marathon Majors Marathon Tours & Travel Age Group World Championships - with 1,800 of the best masters-aged runners travelling from every corner of the world to line up alongside our record marathon field. And of course, our Pont3 team and the extended event team makes this event possible. The core staff, the external contractors, and our purple army - the 3000+ volunteers giving up their time across Thursday - Saturday for the largest Running Show we have ever delivered, and the big day on Sunday, and making tens of thousands of dreams come true. What a day it was, and what a year it has been for the TCS Sydney Marathon.
