The TCS Sydney Marathon presented by ASICS has achieved Abbott World Marathon Majors status thanks to a number of major stakeholders, several of whom were present at a historic press call last Monday morning, at the iconic Sydney Opera House. We would like to thank the Minister for Jobs and Tourism, The Hon. John Graham, and Destination NSW, for their continued support as our major strategic stakeholder, working with us every step of the way towards the Majors finish line, putting the TCS Sydney Marathon alongside the six greatest marathon events in the world. We'd like to extend a huge thank you to the NSW Government, and NSW Premier Chris Minns for speaking to the media last Monday morning, and showing great support for our Candidacy journey including being part of our pre-event media call in 2023. We also would like to acknowledge the owners of the event, Athletics Australia, and their President, Jane Flemming OAM OLY GAICD, as well as our title partner Tata Consultancy Services (represented by Vikram Singh at the call), and our presenting partner ASICS Oceania (represented by Mark Brunton at the call, and professional athletes Isobel Batt-Doyle OLY and Andy Buchanan), who have shown fantastic support of the event, and believed in our dream just as much as we did. We will continue to thrive with the support and contributions of those above and all our partners, as we now look forward to welcoming an anticipated 35,000 runners to the marathon start line in 2025, on Sunday, August 31st. #MajorAnnouncement #PressCall Wayne Larden | Nicola Bentley | Kent Lunney | Simon Bryan

The 1% theory: incremental gains for Olympic Golds. 22 years ago, the British cycling team was woefully unsuccessful. In their 76 year history, they had a single gold medal to their name. 6 years later, the Beijing Olympics saw them claim 70% of the available gold medals in track cycling. A feat which they repeated in the successive Olympics. So, what was the key to this transformation? An influx of funding? A new bike design? In fact these improvements were solely a result of the 1% theory, applying the theory of marginal gains to a cycling team. The team broke down every part of the process, teaching athletes about proper hand-washing to avoid contagious illnesses, paining the floor of the mechanics area white to spot dust and impurities which were negating thorough bike maintenance and transporting mattresses to allow the athletes to sleep in the same position each night. Each 1% increased the teams competitive advantage. This process of continuous improvement sparked inspiration within the team, encouraging every member to begin to identify where these marginal gains may be achieved. While you may not be aspiring take home gold medals in the Paris Olympics, this philosophy could be applied to you and your team. By identifying 1% gains you could see a wealth of improvements in the quality of work you are producing, in addition to inspiring unity within the team. What 1% gains do you think you could make in your personal or professional life? https://buff.ly/49tOJ29 #1%club #marginalgain #1% #1%gain #onepercent #gains #continuousimprovement #improvement #growth #leadership #team

A good discussion on holistic support and education in addressing injury concerns and risks. Worth a watch.
In 2019, British Cycling’s women’s sprint squad missed 458 training days due to lower back pain. But over the past four years, collaborating with the UKSI's Athlete Health Team, this has reduced to just one! This has contributed to the team qualifying for the Olympic Games for the first time since London 2012. Hear from UKSI Athlete Health Lead, Steve McCaig, Head of Physiotherapy at British Cycling, Katie Flatters, and British Cycling Track Sprinter, Sophie Capewell, on our YouTube channel ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/e6SkyTpF

Ever heard of "Atomic Habits" by James Clear? This isn't just a book; it's a blueprint we live by at Hughes Marino. At our latest team meeting, we delved deep into the principle of improving 1% better every day. Why? Because small enhancements by each team member can eventually lead to massive gains collectively. This philosophy isn’t just theory; it's woven into the very fabric of our daily work. Every single day, we’re committed to being the best resource for our communities and clients. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend it. Embrace the compound power of incremental gains! #JamesClear #AtomicHabits #TeamMeeting #ContinuousImprovement #ProfessionalGrowth
In our recent all-hands team meeting, we discussed key themes from one of our favorite books, Atomic Habits by James Clear. In his book, Clear shares the incredible story of the British National Cycling Team and how they went from being one of the worst teams in the rankings, to dominating the world championships. To reach their goal of becoming the best, they made every effort—big and small—to get 1% better every day. From choosing the most comfortable bike seat, to getting the best mattress for sleeping, down to painting the inside of their vans white so that they could keep their equipment immaculate, the team left no detail untouched so they could get better, bit by bit, at their craft. In the end, the team won 178 world championships, 66 Olympic and Paralympic goal medals, and five Tour de France victories over a span of only 10 years. This dedication made them one of the most successful cycling teams in history. Our HM team often talks about the concept of how getting 1% better each and everyday compounds to improving by 37x over one year—a similar concept to what the British cycling team did. #JamesClear #AtomicHabits #TeamMeeting

🌍 Understanding the Evolution of IRONMAN World Championship Locations 🌍 The iconic IRONMAN World Championship has long been synonymous with its traditional location in Kona, Hawaii. Known for pushing the limits of human endurance, this phenomenal event blends cultural nuance with extreme athleticism. Recently, a shift has been proposed by Gustav Iden, a luminary in the triathlon world, suggesting a novel approach that could represent an exciting evolution for the championship. Gustav proposes rotating the event globally, allowing various cultures and countries to host this prestigious competition. Having competed in triathlons myself, I understand the allure and the challenge of the IRONMAN. It's more than a race; it's a holistic journey that extends beyond physical boundaries into the essence of what it means to engage with diverse environments and communities. Imagine the IRONMAN, with its rich history, touching down in varied landscapes – each bringing a unique flavor and a new set of challenges. This could redefine the experience not only for the athletes but for the global audience and host communities. ❓ What are your thoughts on this innovative proposal? One of the most impactful books that I have read in my life is Atomic Habits by James Clear. If you haven't read it, I would highly recommend. I still remember the first time that I read the book while in college. I was knocking doors to sell alarm systems in the summer in order to pay for college. I was encouraged by one of my leaders, Casey Baugh, to read this book. In our most recent company meeting, we dove deep into some of the concepts from this book. A few key takeaways that I have loved: - We should be far more concerned with our current trajectory and where we are headed than with our current results. - Success is the product of our daily habits rather than one-off, massive transformations. - You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems. - The anticipation of a reward is more powerful than the actual reward itself.

What a start
Day 3️⃣ of the Olympics and our fantastic British Cycling riders have delivered a 🥇 medal, a 🥈medal and three other top eight finishes across the first four races. Amazing performances from Tom Pidcock and Anna Henderson to get on the podium, along with a heroic but heartbreaking ride for Josh Tarling on Saturday in the time trial. Brilliant rides from Evie Richards, Charlie Aldridge and 19-year old Ella Maclean-Howell in mountain bike cross country. All of the above can be summed up as incredible unscripted drama featuring amazingly talented and dedicated human beings. Our 🇬🇧 support team in Paris, led by Stephen Park, CBE are doing a great job. Thirteen more days of 🚴🚴🏻♂️🚴♀️ action to come. Thank you to our funding partners UK Sport, Sport England and The National Lotterry for unwavering support. Success is not an accident.
