About us
From practice beginnings with TKTS in Times Square New York in 2000, CHROFI has become renowned for designs that are inventive and responsive to particularities of locality, while meeting the client’s objectives and aspirations. Highlights from our two decades of history include the Maitland Riverlink Building that reconnects the town with its river; Lune de Sang that transforms a former dairy property to a sustainably harvested forest and retreat; Harbord Diggers Redevelopment that nestles a large club and housing development within a sensitive headland; The Goods Line that converts a former rail corridor into a new city destination; and the Ian Potter Conservatory Canberra that reinvents the performance and visitor experience of the traditional glasshouse. We are known for our integrated approach that delivers both private and public outcomes, enriching the life of cities. We are passionate about how the design of buildings and the public realm can shape and elevate the human experience. The firm’s work is frequently cited in media and government design guidelines, its design innovation taught through case studies at architecture schools around the world, and its buildings and places loved by clients and the community. Central to the practice is the growing list of satisfied clients, who hire us for our ability to tackle complex project challenges and bring to life their vision. We work with public agencies, commercial organisations and private individuals across a broad range of project scales and typologies. We loved this collaboration with Mcgregor Coxall, Judy Watson, Arup and Atelier Ten and it was an honour to participate. Our scheme features mass timber construction, seamlessly integrating architectural and structural principles with a playful nod to Madigan’s Trihex geometric language. Nestled among sculptures and the landscape, it embodies a quiet yet bold simplicity. We would like to thank all members of the team: McGregor Coxall - Masterplan and Landscape Architecture @mcgregorcoxall CHROFI - Architecture Judy Watson - Artist @judywatsonartist Arup - Structural Engineer @arupgroup Atelier Ten - ESD @atelier_ten GML - Heritage @gmlheritage MBM - QS @mbmpl Mogamma - Visualisations @mogamma_ & CHROFI @coaparchitects @shftoptplus @studiojef.co @tarn_landscape #nationgalleryofaustralia #masstimberdesign #cltconstruction #masstimber #glulam #architectureaustraliaEdited · 4w

Great to see the excitement around the Nine by Mirvac urban renewal project in Willoughby. Incredible effort by the whole team! Masterplan by CHROFI Architecture collaboration by CHROFI and Mirvac Design
An enjoyable morning out and about in Sydney visiting the now completed Nine by Mirvac urban renewal project in Willoughby. This project saw the redevelopment of the former Channel Nine studios site north of Sydney, into multi-building residential apartments. SMEC provided Civil Engineering services which included resolving key challenges and innovating the management of the significant site slope and tie in to existing surrounding roads and properties. The team also developed an integrated stormwater management solution that includes distributed treatment and onsite detention throughout the development. SMEC worked collaboratively with the wider consultant team to resolve the bulk earthworks and levels design around the buildings and basements and drove favourable outcomes with Council in relation to external works. Well done to all involved in this project, I highly recommend a visit. With: Mehul Patel, Paul D'Orazio, Arun Thiagarajah & Cameron Miles Project website: https://nine.mirvac.com

We are thrilled to announce that the North Head Viewing Platforms has received the Nicholas Murcutt Award for Small Project Architecture at the National Architecture Awards. From the concept design stage through to construction and delivery we have worked closely with our co-designers at Bangawarra to nurture a deeply integrated Connecting with Country approach. We are so grateful to the AIA and it's jurors for its recognition in both the state and national awards. Jury: "The sandstone promontory offers a place to gather and celebrate stories, playing an important role in establishing songlines and connecting a vast kinship system including D’harawal, Dharug, Gai-mariagal, Gundungurra and Guringai peoples, as well as many others. The outcome is sublime. Country remains at the heart of these gathering points." Image 1. - Rhett Wyman Image 2. - Bangawarra - Rhiannon Brownbill Image 3, 4 & 5 - Clinton Weaver The Yiningma and Burragula lookouts now sit nestled in the recovering landscape of North Head, proudly standing sentry at the gates of the harbour. The robust and elemental sandstone pieces rests quietly as new part of the rocky composition of the headland and the podium cantilevers on dramatic edge of the headland, tracing the indiscernible patterns and contours of the landscape below. Through a close design partnership between Bangawarra and CHROFI a unique experience of the harbour that emphasise a connection to place and personal 'reading' of Country. At this point, perched above the Tea Trees and Banksia Scrub, one can begin to comprehend the history, beauty, and vastness of the land of Car-rang-gel. We would also like to thank National Parks and Wildlife Service for their continual support and vision as well as the other contributors to the project: Connecting with Country: bangawarra Structure: SDA Structures Geotech: JK Geotechnic Photography: Clinton Weaver Contractor: Glascott Landscape & Civil Steel fabrication: LDG Engineering Sandstone: Gosford Quarries Sandstone Sandstone installer: Sandstone Wall Solutions Paving: GatherCo Concrete: Holcim

Incredible to see teamwork in action, bringing to life the complex Building D fork and tri-fork columns for Stockland at the #MPARK precinct. Client: Stockland Construction: ADCO Constructions Architect: CHROFI Structure: TTW Formwork: Strategic Formwork Pty Ltd Reinforcement: Carrabay
Great work by our Carrabay team, installing bi-fork and tri-fork columns for Stockland at the #MPARK precinct, in collaboration with our valued client, ADCO Constructions These columns, vital to the infrastructure project, are installed at a 70-degree angle with reinforcement graded from bottom to top. Watch as our team expertly handles the installation, showcasing both technical expertise and seamless teamwork Prefabricated at our Lansvale factory, the columns were then transported to the site. Off-site fabrication ensures precision and quality control while minimizing on-site disruptions. This approach not only accelerates the construction process but also enhances safety and efficiency. Exciting to see #MPark Building D come to life! The building challenges the conventional office building form by ‘breaking outside the box’ through its unique silhouette of inclined facade planes that unfold to open up at the corners and reveal its interior heart. The result is a distinctive form that offers a diversity in architecture within the Macquarie Park area. The chamfered open corners allow the building to feel less solid, offer oblique views, further soften the form and invite people in from the street to the precinct. Offering over 10,000msq of commercial area, the project is conceived as an exemplar contemporary workplace that sits lightly on a park with a rich mix of uses for the whole precinct and community. 🚧 We're making progress at #MPark with the installation of Y columns. 🏗️ A colonnade of 11 off-form concrete columns with five distinct designs will reach from the ground to the second floor, supporting the load of the 7-storey workplace building at 15 Khartoum Road, #MacquariePark. 💡 Located in the heart of the Macquarie Park Innovation District, MPark is on track to becoming a leading employment hub in #Australia's most #innovative postcode. We are very excited to hear that the Tweed Mall Masterplan on Bundjalung Country has been approved by Tweed Shire Council and Joint Regional Planning Panel. The project has been a close collaboration with landscape architects @turfdesignstudio for our client Elanor Investors Group. A project that has been three years in the making through State Agencies and Tweed Shire Council Design Review Panel supported by the NSW Government Architect Design Review process. The redevelopment of the large 1970s shopping mall preempts a denser urban future for a rapidly growing region with some incredible natural assets on its doorstep. The project will deliver a diverse and thriving destination and place to live in Tweed with a green public heart at its core.
