Happy New Year! At Murawin, we’re excited for the year ahead and the many opportunities, projects and experiences that 2025 will hold for us, our clients and the communities we work with. Let’s continue to create impact together.
About us
Murawin is a national consultancy committed to social justice & empowerment of First Nations communities & other marginalised groups. Our organisation works across a wide range of policy areas that directly affect Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples & communities. Implementing our Barri Marruma methodology, we specialise in three core service areas: Social Impact & Engagement, Research & Evaluation, & Place Strategy. Founded by Dunghutti woman Carol Vale & the late Greg McKenzie, Murawin, at its core is rooted in intercultural collaboration, mutual respect, & reconciliation - with the mission to create impact by breaking cycles of disadvantage & amplifying initiatives that contribute to economic & social empowerment. Murawin works with clients across all sectors including corporate, government, private, non-profit & more, to provide meaningful engagement & consultation built on the foundation & practice of deep & active listening. We are committed to helping our clients navigate the complexities of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Cultures whilst working genuinely, respectfully, & effectively with Indigenous communities. Respect, presence & a genuine commitment to learning is vital to all Murawin’s work. This ethos is central to reconciliation & helps us to understand what clients & communities want & need for each project, so that we can deliver value adding outcomes that push the status quo & move forward to a better future together.

Always an empathetic deep listener, Brian is a Senior Consultant at Murawin with extensive experience in research and evaluation, strategic communication, public relations, and stakeholder engagement. Deeply invested in making a difference for his people, Brian, a Tudugal (Torres Strait Islander) man from Daru Island, is a published academic having authored multiple articles on Indigenous Affairs and the relation between First Nations Australians and Cancer. ☀️ What drew you to work at Murawin? In everything I do, I look to make a difference for Mobs around the country and that’s what I get to do here. I began my journey with Murawin as an Associate Consultant in 2017, but became a full-time consultant in October 2021. Over my time here I have been able to work on multiple impactful projects including Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council, the Wakka Wakka Healing Country and Building Totemic Framework and many more. ☀️ What do you do outside of work? I find great joy in dancing, and I love taking dance classes.

The amazing National Reconciliation Week 2025 theme and artwork have just been released. At Murawin, we are committed to reconciliation more than ever and the theme of Bridging Now to Next, beautifully captures the energy we will be taking into 2025 and beyond. #NRW2025
📣National Reconciliation Week 2025 theme announced📣 The National Reconciliation Week (NRW) 2025 theme, Bridging Now to Next, reflects the ongoing connection between past, present and future. At a time when Australia faces uncertainty in its reconciliation journey, this theme calls on all Australians to step forward together. Bridging Now to Next urges us to look ahead and continue the push forward as past lessons guide us. In the #NRW2025 theme artwork created by Kalkadoon woman Bree Buttenshaw, native plants − which are known for regenerating after fire and thriving through adversity − symbolise our collective strength and the possibilities of renewal. This is a time for growth, reflection, and commitment to walking together. Australia’s history of reconciliation is not a linear one, we have made great strides and experienced disappointing setbacks. Twenty-five years ago, Corroboree 2000 brought together Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous leaders in a historic call for reconciliation. We continue that work in 2025, inviting all Australians to join us in Bridging Now to Next - building a more united and respectful nation. See more information on #NRW2025: https://lnkd.in/d3hGDGY6 📌More assets, activity, and information will be released in February 2025. #Reconciliation #BridgingNowtoNext

Murawin was engaged to examine, interpret, present and represent Aboriginal heritage and culture across the design of the new Green Square Integrated Community Facility and School project. Our role was to ensure the first stories were being told, that the facilities are connected to Country and that they are welcoming spaces for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In addition, Murawin was engaged to invite an Aboriginal artist to create an artwork for installation in the school’s rooftop play area. Murawin is proud to have delivered this comprehensive report and we look forward to the development of this project in ways that are guided and informed by the First Stories of this place and Community aspirations and desires, creating an inclusive, appealing, educational and exciting new community space for Green Square. What an exciting, intense and fulfilling year it has been, full of big wins, busy schedules and so much connection. As Murawin’s 10th year in business, 2024 has seen us continue to create impact through our work - providing our clients with high quality services and communities with culturally safe, Country centered engagement, facilitation and advice/strategies. We’ve stuck to our values, methodologies and mission, realising the vision that both co-founders, Carol Vale and Greg McKenzie, had for Murawin. This commitment has ensured Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities are involved in projects across the country from inception to completion and into the future, so that Country, Culture and Indigenous Knowledge are deeply embedded in the projects we work on.
