Today marked the grand opening of the Moura Museum and Library, celebrated with a ceremonial ribbon cutting. The ribbon was cut by Mayor Nev Ferrier and Callide State Member Bryson Head MP, joined by Division 5 Member Cr Brooke Leo, Banana Shire Council CEO Tom Upton, Gangulu representatives Rosemary Hoffman and Philip Toby, and Moura Community Progress Inc members Mina McGuire and John Walker along with the Moura community. This state-of-the-art facility now stands as a vibrant hub for the Moura community and a new attraction for visitors, reflecting our rich mining heritage. Open for 60 hours a week, the facility offers tailored spaces for all age groups and an expanded program lineup to meet the needs of our growing population. The project, made possible by a $6 million grant from the Resources Community Infrastructure Fund and an additional $2.3 million from the Council, is a significant investment in Moura’s infrastructure. Banana Shire Council has secured $2.48 million in funding under the 2024-27 Works for Queensland (W4Q) program! These funds will support key projects across the Shire, enhancing infrastructure, creating jobs, and improving local amenities. This strategic partnership underscores our commitment to propelling our local industries on to the global stage. Earlier this week, Mayor Nev Ferrier presented at the annual Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ) Conference to talk about Council’s partnership with the AUKUS Forum.   Through this partnership, Banana Shire is helping local businesses connect with international experts and networks in industries like manufacturing and technology. Mayor Ferrier explained that this collaboration is opening up new opportunities for local businesses to grow and create more jobs in Banana Shire.  Mayor Ferrier said, “This partnership is all about shaping our future and turning opportunities into real growth for Banana Shire.”
