Further Flood Restoration Works Underway Another package of flood restoration works will soon commence on a number of roads across the region to address damage caused by the July 2022 disaster event, with Council awarding a major contract for the multimillion-dollar repair program on Monday, 16 December 2024. The package of works will be undertaken by Durack Civil and will focus on road repairs, with a further package to include floodway restorations under a separate contract. “Our Council is incredibly pleased to see this contract in place and these works commence,” Mayor Les Hotz said. “The multimillion-dollar repair program is a key component of Council’s 2024-2025 capital works program – and is one of our largest flood repair programs in recent memory.” “The overall repair program is currently expected to exceed $19 million and includes repairs to a wide number of roads and floodways across the region.” The region’s road network has sustained damage through several recent flood and rain events. While Council has undertaken critical emergency repairs following each event, this repair program will address remaining damage resulting from the July 2022 event and provide longer-term repairs where temporary solutions have been necessary. “While the rain is usually great news for our agricultural sector, too much all at once can wreak havoc on our road network,” Mayor Hotz said. “This is a great outcome for residents, ratepayers and road users.” Repairs under the program will be limited to damage caused by the relevant rain or flooding events. This usually does not include full resheets or maintenance grading activities, unless a maintenance grade is also being conducted at the same location at that time. Additionally, floodway restoration is expected to be undertaken as a separate package and may occur at a different time to the relevant road repairs in affected areas. “It’s a bit like an insurance claim – we can only use the funding to repair what was damaged during the event.” Work on the road network is expected to commence in January 2025 and continue for several months. Residents can remain updated on the repair program by visiting Council’s project webpage, which includes a forward schedule and mapping highlighting repair locations. This project page is expected to launch in the new year, and a further public notice will be issued as the page becomes available. Assistance provided through the jointly-funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA).

Our history is important! Arthur Dagg Walk in Mundubbera features the remnants of timber pylons from the old Corser Bridge when it was replaced by the new Dimitrious Bridge in the 1980’s. Unfortunately, due to the deterioration of the timber, the current state of the old Corser Bridge pylons is unsafe to the community. We are seeking community input regarding the history of the site and ideas on how to best preserve the historical significance of the pylons. Do you have any suggestions? We'd love to hear from you! If you would like to be involved in the discussions please call, email or visit your local Customer Service and Library Centre, or come along to the community meeting on Thursday 19 December 2024 from 4pm to 5pm at the Mundubbera Supper Room.

New Flood Gauge Installed on Nogo River We're strengthening flood preparedness in our region! A new rain and river gauge has been installed on the Nogo River, offering critical flood information for the north-west of our region. Location: Near Percy Hindmarsh Bridge Purpose: Provides essential data on rain and river levels above Wuruma Dam, enhancing community awareness of isolation and flood risks in the Rawbelle area. This important addition is part of our ongoing efforts to improve flood warning infrastructure across the Upper Burnett Catchment. Since the 2013 flood event, we've been working hard to increase monitoring capability in key areas. This initiative has been proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s 2021-2024 Works for Queensland Program in association with North Burnett Regional Council. What’s next? The gauge will soon be featured on the Bureau of Meteorology website as part of the Total Flood Warning Review for the Upper Burnett Catchment. This review focuses on community access to critical flood information and identifying future infrastructure needs. Stay up to date with our ongoing flood resilience projects by visiting the North Burnett Regional Council’s Flood Resilience Projects page, https://lnkd.in/gRyjWWfU #NorthBurnett #W4Q Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers
