Exciting news from our partners at The Scottish National Investment Bank and UK Infrastructure Bank about their joint £100m credit facility for Haventus to support offshore wind infrastructure at Port of Ardersier. Scotland is well positioned to take a leadership role in offshore wind, with the sector and local supply chain vital to the future growth of our economy. This development will further enhance the attractiveness of the Inverness and Cromarty Firth Green Freeport, enticing more investors and businesses which will benefit all of Scotland. This announcement is a great example of how public and private sectors can work in partnership to unlock investment, create well paid jobs and enable the wider environmental benefits of the energy transition. The recent announcement by the Victorian and Federal governments for a preliminary feasibility license in our region marks a significant step towards unlocking regional jobs and enhancing energy security for our region.    A new Southern Ocean offshore wind zone project has the potential to invigorate our local economy and contribute to a sustainable energy future. Should the project go ahead, it could generate 1.2 GW of electricity, enough to supply around 10% of Victoria’s current electricity needs – equivalent to 650,000 Victorian homes. SWVA believes that it is crucial that we prioritise the views of our communities the health of our environment and the prosperity of our nature-based tourism and agricultural industries. We maintain that any offshore wind development must be designed with the input of impacted communities, care to ensure it does not adversely affect our natural landscapes, and we implore the government to keep this front of mind as the project feasibility is reviewed. We also strongly advocate for any measures that seek to uplift our region through community benefit schemes. Exciting news from the UK! The new The Labour Party government, led by Keir Starmer, is poised to lift the de-facto ban on onshore wind in England. In her first major speech as Chancellor, Rachel Reeves will announce this significant change as part of a broader overhaul of the planning system, aiming to facilitate grid upgrades and enhance energy infrastructure. It's been nearly a decade since any large-scale onshore wind farms were built in England, due to restrictive planning rules introduced by a previous Conservative-led administration. Labour Party (UK) has consistently pledged to reverse this moratorium, and with their recent electoral victory, they are now set to follow through on this promise. Moderated by Morgan Rossiter, Director - Offshore Wind, Clean Energy Council the session will delve into how #Australia could contribute to the growth of global offshore wind, serving as a catalyst for powering a sustainable future.   The clean offshore energy industry plays a crucial role in the transition to renewable energy solutions and electrification of societies. Governments worldwide recognize offshore wind targets as essential for achieving climate goals and the journey to net zero emissions. However, challenges such as supply chain investments, cost of capital, and transitioning from target setting to implementation remain significant hurdles that the industry must address.   To overcome these challenges and drive the offshore wind industry forward, cross-sector collaboration and the establishment of a sustainable ecosystem are essential. With this and the right level of support Australia is well posed to make offshore wind an integral part of its clean energy mix. The UK Government has set out its action plan to deliver clean power by 2030, one of the Prime Minister’s key milestones.   Responding to the plan, Stew Horne, Head of Policy, emphasised the importance of making renewable energy benefits tangible for households and businesses. We look forward to engaging with the UK Government on how they can effectively scale up community energy and accelerate the upgrade of homes to help make clean power by 2030 a reality.
