🎉 Celebrating 25 Years of #develoPPP! 🎉 Reflecting on this milestone, one of my personal highlights took place just recently in Cape Town during the AESIS Conference. Together with 10 of our incredible portfolio companies, we hosted an inspiring residency program—a unique opportunity to learn, connect, and grow. A particular standout moment? Seeing Mélanie Keïta, Daisy Isiaho and Niko Kadjaia take the stage to pitch their solutions in front of a large crowd of investors. It was inspiring to witness their confidence, creativity, and the interest they generated—clear proof of the transformative impact develoPPP Ventures continues to achieve. A big thank you to Victor Joseph, Clemence Exaudi, Almut van Casteren, Elvis Silayo, MD, James Mulatya, Abraham Itule, Paul Bomani, as well as the VC4A Team and all partners and investors who made this possible. Moments like these demonstrate the power of collaboration to drive meaningful change. I’d love to hear about your #develoPPP moments as we celebrate this milestone! I nominate Mélanie Keïta, Daisy Isiaho and Niko Kadjaia to share their highlights and keep the celebration going. 🌍 #25yearsdeveloPPP | www.developpp.de

Innovative solutions! Day 4 of our 12 Days of BirdLife celebrates the launch of AVISTEP in four new countries, helping the planet's migratory birds. 🌍 Together with DEG Impulse, we rolled out AVISTEP, an open-access tool that allows anyone interested in planning on and offshore wind energy, solar energy, or powerlines, to see the exact impact upon birds across the entirety of each country. ⚡️🔧 This information ensures developers and regulators develop facilities in the most appropriate locations. 📌 Each of the newly added countries – Egypt, Kenya, Laos and Uzbekistan – are experiencing rapidly expanding energy infrastructure that could pose a threat to migratory birds if not properly planned. 🐦 Find out more here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eD_Bq4Dy Stay tuned for our 12 Days of BirdLife! 📆🎉 #BirdLifeInternational #12DaysofBirdLife #AVISTEP #EnergyPlanning #MigratoryBirds #BirdLifeGlobalFlyways

We are extremely proud to share the news of our win in the "Partnership for Sustainability Award 2024" in the Peace category! The awards ceremony, held yesterday in #Kyiv, was an excellent opportunity for us not only to share our experience but also to learn about other important business initiatives. It was especially gratifying to receive the award from Stefan Kossoff, UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office Development Director for #Ukraine. This prestigious international award, initiated by the UN Global Compact Network Ukraine, recognizes the collective efforts of businesses, governments, and civil society aimed at creating a better future. Our winning case, focused primarily on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal Life on Land, represents a significant step in contributing to a better future, the rebuilding of Ukraine, and the promotion of responsible business practices. #UN SDGs are designed to protect the #environment, solve social challenges and promote #peace. The challenges for #demining in Ukraine go beyond the technical or practical. The solution required called for true cooperation. Having established an office in Ukraine in 2022 and as the first commercially-accredited demining company in Ukraine, Global Clearance Solutions (GCS) were uniquely able to coordinate and put in place machines, deminers and teams of trainers thanks to the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)’s donation within the aegis of the DEG Impulse #develoPPP programme. The impact of the donation has been multiplied with each partner providing according to ability and the pressing need. Project partners NIBULON Ltd., Ukraine’s leading grain exporter, were able to continue payments to their leaseholders – ordinary Ukrainians - under Ukraine’s unique landholding structure, providing crucial income to local communities to help them survive while demining took place. Our heartfelt thanks go to our team, our partners NIBULON and develoPPP, and the award orgaizers for this recognition! #humanitariandemining #demining #erw #humanitarianmineaction #eod #mechanicaldemining #wearewherethefuturebegins

🤝 𝗨𝗻𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻-𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀: 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗚𝗔𝗕𝗦 ✨ We were thrilled to co-host a side event at the German-African Business Summit (GABS) 2024 together with our esteemed partners from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH, exploring how German-African supply chains create added value for businesses and sustainable development.🌍🌾 Our fantastic panellists brought inspiring insights from their respective fields: 👏Virginia Gitonga, General Manager at Selecta Kenya, leads breeding and operations while advancing sustainable horticulture supply chains in Kenya. She also chairs Kenya’s Horticulture Sector Skills Advisory Committee. 👏 Richard Appiah, Business Development Manager at Sommalife, focuses on building strategic partnerships to support women farmers and promote sustainable market access in the shea industry. 👏Claire van Enk, Founder and CEO of Farm to Feed, follows the mission to reduce food loss and CO2 emissions in Kenya by creating markets for surplus and imperfect produce. 🎤 The panel was expertly moderated by Madeleine Schön. Opening remarks by Benjamin Knoedler highlighted the importance of German-African supply chains and the need for joint action from public and private stakeholders. DEG Impulse is proud to collaborate with Selecta Kenya and Farm to Feed through the #develoPPP programme, funded by the German Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development: 👩🌾 Together with Selecta Kenya (part of the Selecta one Group), we’re supporting qualification structures for predominantly female and young employees in Nairobi and the Kenyan highlands. 🍅 Farm to Feed is creating a market for surplus and imperfect produce, connecting smallholder farmers with customers while reducing food waste and lowering costs for buyers. They are also developing a data-driven strategy to identify food loss drivers and implementing a carbon credit model with our support via #develoPPPVentures. 🔎 Curious about develoPPP? This funding programme provides technical and financial support to established companies and start-ups making an impact in emerging-market countries. Learn more in the comments. 🌎 Reflecting on three days in Geneva at the 13th UN Forum on Business and Human Rights: These were some of our highlights! ✨ Discussions at the #UNForumBHR touched on a variety of topics surrounding the "smart mix of measures" for the realization of the UNGPs, including an improved integration of access to remedy as the third pillar of the UNGPs as well as the role of vulnerable groups such as indigenous people. In the session "Empowering SMEs: Awareness Raising and Capacity Building in Business and Human Rights” co-organized by the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights, International Trade Centre, International Organisation of Employers (IOE), United Nations Global Compact, and the German Helpdesk, Jenny Ohme, Coordinator at the Helpdesk Business and Human Rights, shared some lessons-learned on supporting SMEs since 2017. She thereby emphasized: ➡️ The availability of a wide range of quality resources and online-tools that can be made accessible to SMEs by providing local language versions ➡️ The value of publicly funded individual and expert advisory services for companies to respond to companies’ questions ➡️ The key role of funding and finance in the context of SME’s ESG engagement and a few examples from the German context, incl. the ESG First Fund (KfW), develoPPP (DEG Impulse, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH) and ImpactConnect (DEG). Furthermore, Dr. Jessica de Wolff, Head of the Helpdesk on Business and Human Rights, was invited to the Breakfast Talk organized by the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany and hosted by the Geneva Human Rights Platform. During this event, she shared valuable insights on the practical experiences of businesses with the smart mix approach, reflecting on challenges and opportunities to enhance its implementation in fostering respect for human rights. We furthermore hosted the first in-person meeting of the growing international helpdesk network together with the Dutch Helpdesk and participation from the German, Swedish and Dutch governments, European Commission, International Labour Organization, OECD - OCDE, United Nations Human Rights and The RBH Network (together representing around 15 Helpdesks, operational or in development). 🤝 The German government’s information desk (Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany, Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), Bundesministerium für Arbeit und Soziales) attracted numerous visitors, fostering connections with Government representatives, businesses, associations, civil society and many other stakeholders. We are grateful for the enriching exchanges! Special thanks also to Malte Drewes, Johannes Maximilian van Lingen and Jessica Kruse for representing the Helpdesk in Geneva. 🔗 Check out an overview of all the panels as well as the recording of the panel “Empowering SMEs” through the link in the comments.
