Carmo Requejo has dedicated her career to understanding people through design, and she brings that same passion to mentoring teams at the University of Helsinki’s entrepreneurship programmes. With over two decades of experience spanning industrial, UX, service, and strategic design, Carmo believes that impactful solutions start with empathy. “Design is not just about aesthetics or function—it’s about solving real problems for real people,” she explains. As a mentor, Carmo encourages her mentees to slow down and focus on user needs before jumping to solutions. Her unique background allows her to support mentees on both professional and personal levels. “Sometimes, the best thing you can offer as a mentor is empathy,” she says, emphasizing that understanding unspoken needs is key to effective design and innovation. Main tasks include: 🔹 Organizing and maintaining our repository of research insights. 🔹 Providing operational support to other researchers (notetaking, debriefs). 🔹 Offering methodological guidance to designers conducting their own research. 🔹 Conducting end-to-end qualitative and quantitative research (mainly interviews and surveys), including planning, material preparation, moderation, analysis, and stakeholder management.
