  • Ah, Christmas! ✨ The time of year when we deck the halls, roast chestnuts, and, oh yes, open our homes to a mysterious, bearded man who sneaks in under the cover of darkness. No questions asked. Think about it: any other day of the year, a guy dressed head-to-toe in red, wielding a giant sack, creeping into your house in the middle of the night would prompt a 911 call and a swift lock change.   And how do you know the person coming to your house is who he claims to be? This fall, HySpex has been busy in our labs scanning a variety of arctic reindeer wool samples (yes, they are woolen!). Yesterday, we were visited by a very special guest - and a fraud.     A proud moment for the NEO team! Senior Research Scientist at NEO, Mikkel Brydegaard, is one of the recipients of this year's European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant! This 2.7M€ grant will fund the six-year HyperSense project, which aims to develop four new compact hyperspectral LiDAR prototypes providing real-time, full-waveform lidar data in hundreds of spectral bands from 200 nm to 2600 nm. Trond Løke, CEO at Norsk Elektro Optikk AS said the following: 💬 "This is an excellent opportunity to integrate our passive hyperspectral systems with the hyperspectral LiDAR technology Mikkel have been developing.   • Something is stirring on the ground floor! 🪛🌌 As Norsk Elektro Optikk AS expands into space, we are constructing an ISO class 7 cleanroom at our offices in Oslo. Soon we'll be using this cleanroom to put together hyperspectral imagers for use in microsatellites. For this purpose, cleanliness is crucial: A dust particle inside a hyperspectral camera orbiting Earth could compromise the instrument's image quality. Satellite payloads must also be kept clean to avoid contamination of other instruments flying on the same platform. The air entering the cleanroom will be filtered for dust and other particles. Additionally, anyone entering the cleanroom must wear appropriate attire, including a lab coat, hairnet, and gloves. Having our own in-house cleanroom as opposed to renting one externally will increase efficiency and flexibility in product development, and we consider this to be a part of our commitment to innovation and quality. This will help us achieve great things, and we can't wait for it be finished. Thanks to Bryn Byggklima AS for helping with the construction of the room!
