A proud moment for the NEO team! Senior Research Scientist at NEO, Mikkel Brydegaard, is one of the recipients of this year's European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant! This 2.7M€ grant will fund the six-year HyperSense project, which aims to develop four new compact hyperspectral LiDAR prototypes providing real-time, full-waveform lidar data in hundreds of spectral bands from 200 nm to 2600 nm. Trond Løke, CEO at Norsk Elektro Optikk AS said the following: 💬 "This is an excellent opportunity to integrate our passive hyperspectral systems with the hyperspectral LiDAR technology Mikkel have been developing. Something is stirring on the ground floor! 🪛🌌 As Norsk Elektro Optikk AS expands into space, we are constructing an ISO class 7 cleanroom at our offices in Oslo. Soon we'll be using this cleanroom to put together hyperspectral imagers for use in microsatellites. For this purpose, cleanliness is crucial: A dust particle inside a hyperspectral camera orbiting Earth could compromise the instrument's image quality. Satellite payloads must also be kept clean to avoid contamination of other instruments flying on the same platform. The air entering the cleanroom will be filtered for dust and other particles. Additionally, anyone entering the cleanroom must wear appropriate attire, including a lab coat, hairnet, and gloves. Having our own in-house cleanroom as opposed to renting one externally will increase efficiency and flexibility in product development, and we consider this to be a part of our commitment to innovation and quality. This will help us achieve great things, and we can't wait for it be finished. Thanks to Bryn Byggklima AS for helping with the construction of the room!

𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐮𝐩𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞: M4Mining Hackathon Halfway into the Horizon Europe-funded M4Mining project, we’re reaching important milestones! HySpex is expanding! 🥳 We're happy to announce that we are opening a new local sales and support office in Berlin, Germany! These two past weeks, the m4mining project took us to two different mine sites in Greece for our third project field campaign and two of our case study sites! First, we visited Milos Island for a bentonite aggregate mine. Then, we moved to a closed bauxite mine in southern Greece, where we conducted hyperspectral scans of mine waste from legacy operations. Hosted by the University of Patras, we spent two successful weeks conducting drone surveys with #hyperspectral instruments, validating atmospheric correction routines, testing safety algorithms for drone deployment, and carrying out physical sampling for spectral and geochemical analysis.   Together with ReSe Applications LLC, NORCE Norwegian Research Centre, and Helmholtz-Centre Potsdam - German Research Centre GFZ, and Luleå University of Technology we flew our hyperspectral drone with the HySpex Mjolnir VS-620 camera.   This mission showcased cutting-edge technology and collaboration across two mine sites—bauxite and bentonite—pushing innovation in mining forward!   #DroneSurvey #SustainableMining #BauxiteMine #BentoniteMine #HorizonEurope #Research #RemoteSensing #HyperspectralImaging #DronesInMining #MiningInnovation
