“I’ve spent over 17 years in the financial crime services domain, an experience that has allowed me to protect individuals from the relentless threats of financial crime. One other way I’ve been able to serve communities and fills my heart with purpose and joy is through CommBank’s Enable Network. Enable aims to raise awareness, foster inclusion, and create employment opportunities for persons with disabilities.   This year, in honour of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPwD), Enable embraced the theme “Brighter Without Barriers.” It was a heartfelt occasion to connect and ignite inspiration around inclusion initiatives for our people and the wider community. Collaborating with our NGO partners, The The Association of People with Disability (APD, India) and EnAble India, our people got the opportunity to experience blindfold cricket, sign language tutorials, and hands-on exploration of the ‘Yes to Access’ app that fostered empathy and understanding on accessibility and inclusion.   We also welcomed students from EnAble India for a Corporate Exposure Visit at our Bengaluru office, giving them a glimpse into our corporate world, inspiring them to be a part of a thriving workforce. One of the most fulfilling moments when my eyes welled up with happy tears was the privilege of supporting incredibly talented artists from the PwD community, who crafted these stunning Mandala art pieces. Each piece is a beautiful illustration of victory over adversity.   At CommBank, we are fortunate to have a team of dedicated people committed to inclusivity. The heartwarming and insightful discussion highlighted the essence of maintaining good mental health, recognizing signs of distress, and the importance of seeking professional support. Kakli emphasized that just as we consult doctors for physical ailments, it's absolutely alright to reach out for professional help regarding mental health. Two key takeaways resonated beautifully with participants: first, it's perfectly natural to have a good cry over grief, as it helps in the healing process; and second, the importance of building a supportive tribe of trusted people who stand by you through thick and thin. As leaders, creating a psychologically safe environment where team members feel comfortable expressing their struggles is the first and most vital support we can offer. “My career path has been quite unconventional, from a Commerce graduate to a Cybersecurity expert. I began my journey as an Accounting and Payments specialist, leveraging my Commerce background—a typical career route. However, while overseeing my clients' financial systems, the importance of securing sensitive data became increasingly apparent. This sparked my interest in the field of cybersecurity. I started by taking online courses and workshops to build my foundational knowledge, and to my surprise, I found the subject fascinating. Eventually, I secured a position in the cybersecurity field, focusing on Identity and Access Management. Here I utilized technology to manage digital identities and control user access to resources within the system. Balancing my job with my learning journey was challenging, but once I recognized the vast possibilities ahead, I knew there was no turning back. I joined CommBank as a Senior Engineer and here my learning journey expanded significantly incorporating not only courses and certifications but also practical experience in fraud prevention and customer account security. Being part of a team committed to keeping the bank secure for over 17 million customers has been a significant motivator. After gaining real-world learning, I was presented with an opportunity to step into the role of Product Owner within the Cybersecurity team. In this position, I connect technical solutions with business insights, enhancing the bank's security posture and safeguarding our customers' trust. Today, I find fulfillment in my career, having successfully combined my commerce background with my cybersecurity expertise.
